Much 2 much."
Disc 2 "HIStory Continues": Contains some of the most eccentric pop music ever recorded. Disc 1 "HIStory Begins": These tracks are the reason Michael was once known as the "King of Pop. Not just because the performer is weirder than Howard Hughes or Charles Foster Kane combined, but because the tracks range from excellent urban soul to appallingly bad rock to treacly ballads syrupy enough for a Disney feature. In addition, Michael's paranoia, anger, and frustration come through on virtually every track, from the otherwise excellent 'Tabloid Junkie' to the really, really, really bad "D. S. " His cover of Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' definitely prepares him for a Vegas lounge act, and his cover of 'Come Together' is proof that the Beatles catalogue is in the wrong hands. The unevenness of "HIStory Continues", and its combined packaging with a collection of Michael's truly exceptional hits, make it virtually irrevelant, although it is Michael's most personal statement. There is such a thing as over-sharing, however.
UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING!!

Making History
The word is his ex-wife from his first marriage gets 10% of the royalties on this product, but that is not a good reason for its price. The price on this 2-CD set seems high, and I do not understand the reason for the pricing strategy. Following Mr. Jackson's death, there was some indication that the price on this set might increase so after listening to samples of the songs I do not have, I purchased it in anticipation of a price increase. As it turns out I could have waited to purchase a quality used set if I waited.
The only five songs that are new to me out of its 30 tracks are: D. S. , Come Together, Tabloid Junkie, Little Susie and Smile. The first three songs are funky and complement the artists' singing style, "Little Susie" parallels the circumstances of Mr. Jackson's life and death, and "Smile" has a melancholy mood similar to how his life is described in print and it is also sad like "Gone Too Soon". Since I have the DVD for History on Film Volume 2, I already had exposure to "Childhood" and "They Don't Care About Us" as well as "Scream", "Stranger in Moscow" and "You Are Not Alone".
Nine of the songs on Disc 2 are the original (non-remix) versions of what appears on the Blood on the Dance Floor: History In The Mix album: Scream, Money, 2 Bad, Stranger in Moscow, This Time Around, Earth Song, You Are Not Alone, and History. This is a reason to purchase the set even if you already have the remixes.
Assuming Michael Jackson selected the songs for Disc 1 (History Begins) and Disc 2 (History Continues), makes History: Past, Present and Future Book I a statement about the history of his music and the development of his style. I hope it is not just about marketing; "it's about making history" as he has said.
