Rad.
This was a safe album for Jackson, capitalizing on Thriller's strengths and making R&B/Funk palatable to white America. The most 80's-sounding of his albums, 'Bad' has not aged as well as Thriller or Off the Wall, mostly due to its musical arrangements, which conjure up images of big hair and skinny ties. By mixing in touches of rock and new wave, cross-cultural appeal was guaranteed, and although the record sold astronomically well, it has not become an all-time classic. 'Bad' is still good, it's just not the cultural phenomenon 'Thriller' was. But it is classic 80's pop.

Michael Jackson's Bad CD
Very entertaining as well as interesting and comical in parts. If anyone ever wanted to hear what it took to make this album then they should buy this to hear Quincy Jones give his own interpretation of how the 33 songs Michael Jackson wrote either made it to the album or not. Just buy it and you will see!.

Special Edition & Original "BAD" -- Collect both!!
I still can't figure it out over 20 years later. When this album was first released I could not figure out why it was considered "rock" or a transition to "rock". But, listening to Michael Jackson's work in 2009 underscores how sophisticated an artist and singer he really was with songs like "Man in the Mirror" and "Smooth Criminal". He was only 28 years old (or younger) when he created all of this work which was released just two days following his 29th birthday, on August 31, 1987. These songs took him into the next decade without sounding dated---that is genius!

After Michael Jackson's death, I purchased the Special Edition and a copy of the original version released in Japan. The gem on the original version is the introduction for the song "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" where he speaks a verse before he begins singing.
Don't understand why the following spoken introduction was removed from the later versions of the song:

I just want to lay next to you for awhile/You look so beautiful tonight/Your eyes are so lovely/Your mouth is so sweet/A lot of people misunderstand me/That's because they don't know me at all/I just want to touch you/I need you/I love you so much

See: "Bad(album " at Wikipedia for a list of additions and omissions between the Special Edition and the original Bad albums.

My second favorite Michael Jackson album.
It was time, after Thriller, for Michael to show the world how bad he truly was. Right behind Thriller, I would consider BAD to be my second favorite Michael Jackson album. Hence the name of the album. And, to be fair to Michael, while he didn't get the success he did with Thriller, nor would he ever again in his lifetime, he definitely proved to everybody he's bad, and you know it.

TRACK LISTING:
1. Bad
2. The Way You Make Me Feel
3. Speed Demon
4. Liberian Girl
5. Just Good Friends
6. Another Part Of Me
7. Man In The Mirror
8. I Just Can't Stop Loving You
9. Dirty Diana
10. Smooth Criminal
11. Leave Me Alone
13. Streetwalker
17. Fly Away
*Special edition, of course*

My personal favorites on this album are Bad (he had to show the world he was bad,) The Way You Make Me Feel (which is a nice romp around the room song,) Man In The Mirror (because it's such a personal and touching song,) I Just Can't Stop Loving You (because I'm currently in that kind of situation and that song speaks to me because of it,) and, of course, Smooth Criminal (due to it being the ultimate dance song on the album!)

A Michael Jackson fan should definitely own a copy of Bad. I don't see why they wouldn't want to.

Drivin' to California
I played Michael the whole way but the CD that really jams is Bad. Two weeks ago I drove from Santa Fe to California, a drive which takes 12 hours. To me, MJ is his edgiest on this CD. He's just pure, raw genius and he wrote more songs on this CD than Off the Wall or Thriller. The song that I can't get enough of is Streetwalker. I just keep hitting the replay button over and over again. If you don't respond to this song, you don't have a pulse.
