Pretty solid recording. Rick James was another music genius with his funk rythms. I had this album with my alliance when it first came out. This is like one of three or four Rick James albums that should still be available on cd. Can you say titles like "Fire it Up, Garden of Love, Throwing Down, and this particular album title i'm commenting on.
BUSTIN' OUT FOR THE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"High On Your Love Suite" just JAMS away endlessly for over 7 minutes while "Cop N' Blow" is a tad smoother but grooves like mad. Second time around and Rick Jame's truely gives up the funk 100%-even the two slow tunes "Space Love" and "Jefferson Ball" have enough sassy sax solo's and backup vocals for a superb late night groove! Now to the real meat-the title song is pure George Clinton-inspired P-punk-funk,if you will-all rhythm and chant. "Fool On The Street" is a similar (but slightly catchier) tune that ends the album.
I recommend 'Bustin' Out' as a good introduction to early Rick James-his 1978 debut had a few classic tunes but was uneven with it's halfbaked filler and disco detours. On this 19979 album there's none of that so you get the meat and potatoes of Rick's particular elan.
Tight Set
"Fool on the Street" was my Cut. always dug this Album. "Jefferson Ball" is one of the baddest Slow Cuts most have never heard. the Arrangements there&whatnot are something else. if you thought "Dream-Maker" from 78 was something else than "Jefferson ball" takes it to another level. "Bustin Out" One of Rick's Signature Funk Joints is still Slammin to this Day. the Early Genius of Rick is on Display here. "Cop N Blow" Pre-Dated alot of the things that Prince would later add to His Music in the Mid 80's. it's really sad to me that Rick doesn't always get His Due. He was more than "Street Songs".
