A somewhat different sound but no less excellent than its prequel.
Since i purchased Oxygene and Equinoxe last September I've been adding to my ollection all the Jarre albums that seem to have gotten the best reviews. It's playing on my stereo even as I write this. Oxygene 7-13, as its name implies, is a direct sequel to the original 1976 Oxygene. Jean Michel Jarre even goes so far as to use many of the same synthesizers he used to create that classic work.
Though the sequel is considerably more rhythm driven than Oxygene was, this is no bad thing. The opening track is eleven minutes of intense, driving excellence that smacks, to me at least, of both Oxygenes II and IV. Of course you can hear the links between this sequel and the original all over the album. Oxygene 8, for instance, smacks of Oxygene VI, with the same sort of sound and even the same sort of rhythm. I always did feel that Oxygene left me wanting more, well this album takes care of that nicely. The theremin does seem to be absent from this album, but oh well. It doesn't ruin it for me.

Regurgitation
A classic 5 star project. Oxygene 1-6 (1976) made a distinct limitless impression. Emotional stylized music structures floating in a realm where inner and outer space form an ambiguous dimentionless continuum. Question: Is it realistic trying to repeat such an accompishment? Answer: Oxygene 7-13! Dehydrated broken bones glued together in semi-familiar patterns. Insistently planar dinosauric compositions drudgingly plod along old trails. In an age of developing synthesizer technology Jean-Michel affectionatly stuck with his paleolithic analog keyboards. One might argue that you never know until you try. Well trying is one thing, but publishing it as part of your legacy is lunatic. This CD marks the nadir in an exponential decline since Oxygene 1-6. .

Oxygene lives!
This album picks up right where the original Oxygene finished off. Not disappointed. Have only just discovered this album after first hearing Oxygene 1-6 over 20 years ago.

wow
Listen to this and chill. Electronic tunes at their best. What can I say. His music is so universal, the Iranian radio and tv, have been using his tunes since the revolution for all their sports programs, of course without giving him credit. The power of good music.

A worthy sequel
I now have both albums on my MP3 player, playing as a continuous soundtrack from Oxygene 1 thru Oxygene 13. Although a bit cynical at first, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the second Oxygene album was as good as the first. If you liked Oxygene 1-6, you'll like Oxygene 7-13.
