HORRIBLE
FIRST OFF. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD ARRIVE MARCH 5 - 20. . . WHAT KIND OF SCHEDULE IS THAT? A 15 DAY WINDOW?

SECONDLY, IT IS MARCH 29 TODAY AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY ORDER. I AM NOT HAPPY!!!!!! I BOUGHT 2 OF THE SAME CD'S. ONE FOR MYSELF, ONE FOR A BIRTHDAY GIFT.

BTW. . . THESE WERE ORDERED ON FEB. 28TH. I AM NOT HAPPY AT ALL!.


Recorded to retain their claim to the band name?


Lifeless, plodding, and pointless, just going through the motions, with a selection of songs that seems to have been picked in 10 minutes over a mug of latte at Starbucks -- "Good enough, that'll do". I loved the Airplane and some of the Starship, but this utterly redundant CD is just too lame for words. Was it recorded in one afternoon or did it take the whole two? This isn't the Starship. Even a Starship tribute band would cringe at performing this one.

Two tracks into it, and you find yourself wondering why was this recorded at all, and the only answer that comes to mind is that they have to periodically put something or other new out under the Jefferson Starship name in order to retain the rights to the name. Whatever, they certainly didn't gather to make music when they went into the studio for this one.

Seeing some of the other reviews here, it seems to me that there is a lot of wishful thinking going on, with old time fans trying rather too hard to convince themselves that there is something worth listening to here. Unfortunately that is not the case. The material is creakingly tired and hackneyed, and the performances are all phoned in.

Let's be honest with ourselves: this disappointing and pointless recording adds nothing of value. I'll bet that nobody who is straining to praise it here will still be playing it 3 weeks after purchasing it.

Don't Listen For The Past
I sort of liked the first couple of Jefferson Starship albums like "Blows Against The Empire", but pretty much hated what came later. I still love the old Jefferson Airplane. When I read some of the reviews on this new release, I wanted to get hear more out of curiosity than anything else. I can see where anybody listening for the Airplane or Starship might be disappointed. Thats not what is going on here. You have to really sit down and give it a listen on it's own merits. It has more of a roots folk feel to it, with some outstanding vocals. The songs are coming from the past, but don't look for the Airplane. This is something else, and its good.


Nice CD
I guess they are trying to get back to their roots. If your are expecting more San Francisco Rock and Roll you will be disappointed, as this album is mostly folk tunes, a little bluegrass, some country even, not your usual fare from these folks. But if you like the familiar voices with this different kind of music you will like this CD.


Sometimes, it's better not to look back
I love the old Jefferson Starship - Blows Against the Empire, and even other 'revolutionary' themed offerings from Paul Kantner and Grace Slick (Sunfighter, Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra), so was thrilled when I had heard they had released a 'new' old themed CD - if there were ever times that screamed for some type of protest, it's got to be the last 8 years of Republican controlled government (the Democrat controlled congress is a moot point if they can't override a veto), anyway - I thought, "cool, my sixties revolutionairies are back . . . hooray". But when I got this, they just sounded old and dated. Maybe it's me, but I just didn't find what I was looking for with this CD. Is it 'revolutionary', well . . . . at times, but mostly, it just struck me as a lament for old days by a bunch of once great, but now dated artists. Cathy Richarson, who that takes the Grace Slick vocal slot, does a fine job - and can hold her own with Grace Slick in her prime, but there's no passion in these songs. They seem like half-hearted, folksy ditties that don't measure up to their predecessors. Sometimes, it's not a good thing to look back. Marty Balin is on this, but his voice is gone. Paul Kantner sounds familiar, but older, and overall, kind of washed up. If you're a die hard and want to complete a collection, then go ahead and get this, but if you're looking for something like Blows Against the Empire, or for that matter - any other Jefferson Starship Cd, you'll probably find this lacking. .
