A most treasured album

With Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, the Outlaws are another supergroup, like The Traveling Wilburys. I put this album alongside Willie Nelson's "Red-Headed Stranger" as two of my most treasured albums.

This album does not disappoint. My favorite moment on the album is when Waylon has just completed his song, and then there is the familiar Willie Nelson instrumental guitar opening chords and the crowd goes wild. Willie has not even begun singing; I'm not even sure the audience can see him in the shadows, but they all recognize his guitar sound.

Jessi is a superb song writer and she is featured in his album. With the passing of Waylon Jennings, this album has even more poignancy.

To the best of my knowledge, the only way you can "buy" Jessi's "Looking for Blue Eyes" is by buying the whole album. It is worth it.

The memories are better than the music
At the time, I loved this album. I grew up on country music, with Waylon & Willie being among the most "modern" singers that my family listened to. I especially loved Jessie Colter. "I'm Not Lisa" still brings back memories. "Suspicious Minds" is really kind of schmaltzy and cliched, but I liked it then and I still like it.

All these years later, I'm not sure I really needed a reissue with "lost" music, though. Truth be told, I don't find most of this music as compelling as I did back in my youth. Waylon & Willie both did much better work elsewhere. Tompall Glaser is forgettable, in my view. I still love Jessie Colter, though. I just wouldn't necessarily recommend her to others. Her voice is definitely an acquired taste. I loved the fact that one of The Outlaws was a woman, I guess. Some things never change.

Outlaws CD
There was confusion about my having already purchased it, and shipment was therefore delayed. The CD itself is in great condition. The seller quickly rectified this oversight and remained in constant communication until my receipt of the item.

The Outlaws
Too bad country doesn't still sound this good. This CD has wonderful country songs by the 4 outlaws - Waylon, Willie, Jessi, and Tompall. This CD is real country. "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys", "T for Texas", "Put Another Log on the Fire" are my favorites.

Fine introduction to the outlaw movement
And Willie gave a helping hand when Waylon was in a mess. Thanks for Waylon's effort and support, Willie could make a breakthrough. What a great friendship they made. Moreover, Jessi Colter and Tompall Glaser supported Waylon and Waylon let them ride on a bandwagon called "Outlaw". If it had not been for the album, Tompall could have never taken any spotlight.
In a creative sense, I don't think this compilation carried weight much in the country music scene. But it is still necessary to look back what was the Outlaw phenomenon. Willie's RCA tunes are fabulous and Waylon's tunes show his determination turning into self-confidence. Those uplifting days were so glorious that we can hardly find such a magic in today's music.
