GREAT JETT! Even a little better than 'Fit To Be Tied'. One of the BEST Jett compilations to date.
Bad Reputation? So What? She Rocks!
I have Joan Jett's "I Love Rock'n'Roll" and "Up Your Alley" and in addition I have all The Runaways studio albums and a live album, so I know which kind of songs has this queen of rock made. It was quite a luck I found this collection in my town's second-hand shop. The Runaways was the first real famous female rock band and their first hit was "Cherry Bomb". You can find that song in their debut "The Runaways". In this collection you can find the version Joan Jett made with L7 (which was quite a famous female rock band too). I think the version in here sung by Joan Jett & L7 is much more mature than Cherie Currie's version with The Runaways but not near as good.
In this collection you find the best songs sung by Joan Jett during the peroid 1979-1996. . . well at least "I'm Gonna Runaway" from "I Love Rock'n' Roll" and "You Want In, I Want Out" from "Up Your Alley" would have been welcome for this collection too but you have only 80 minutes and this collection is 75 minutes.
The songs from her debut EP & album "Bad Reputation": "Bad Reputation", "Shout", "You Don't Know What You've Got" (EP version), "Make Believe", and "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) are good example why you should have this collection. They are full of Joan Jett power. . . and they are brilliant songs. . . if there would be only one woman in this world who would have enough power to change your rock world. . . that would be Joan Jett. (Don't worry. . . there's also others. )
The songs from "I Love Rock'n'Roll". . . the title track one of the biggest hits ever. . . and which you don't wanna hear sung by Britney Spears (cause it is a terrible version). I think the pop princess shouldn't cover the songs which belong to the Queen of Noise. Also the songs "Crimson And Clover", "Love Is Pain", "Victim of Circumstance" are great songs which rock your world.
The great CCR cover song "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" is one of my favourites. There's plenty of good songs. . . "Everyday People" has great lyrics about the peace between people. "I Hate Myself for Loving You" is my favourite Joan Jett song which has been also written by her. The last song "Love Is All Around" is a minute-long, great song. The lyrics in the most songs are about her own experiences. . . she had a bad reputation from the Runaways. . . that's why she had difficulties to get record deals. She made her own with his band. "Time Has Come Today" is a great song and not least for its middle-section. . . quite strange. . . almost like a clip from Pink Floyd's Ummagumma album. "Little Liar" is a great song from "Up Your Alley". . . quite soft. . . it is so great because other songs are quite aggressive and I need something else too.
Stars: I Love Rock'n' Roll, I Hate Myself for Loving You, You Don't Know What You've Got, Bad Reputation, Victim of Circumstance.
Passionate
With great perseverance Joan Jett has made her success in the rock business, which is not very appreciative to women. Excellent compilation of the greatest hits of the queen of rock'n'roll. One main reason for this success is that rock music is her life. This CD is full with great songs. Most of all I like „Bad Reputation", „I Hate Myself For Loving You", „Cherry Bomb" (from the Runaways time, here in a live version), „Roadrunner" (by Jonathan Richman), „Victim Of Circumstance" and „I Love Rock'n'Roll".
beats the u.s. release
