Not As Good As I Thought It Would Be!!! The only songs I liked were Bad Reputation, Shout, and Wooly Bully. This was an okay CD. I think Joan Jett has a really good voice, but I just didn't care too much for the songs. I probably wouldn't recommend BAD REPUTATION!!!.
Better than I thought it'd be
Anyway, that was about what I was expecting from this album. **************************************************************************
Usually, when you find an album with only five star reviews, and only a few of them, it means that the album is by an obscure artist and only their most hardcore fans (which are usually their only fans) would review the album. To my surprise, however, I actually ended up really liking the album (ironically, I didn't care for the title track that much).
The album has something of a raw sound to it, which undoubtedly comes from the album being her first, but it helps more than it hinders, I think.
The album actually covers a number of different genres, including glam, pop, rock n roll (older type), and, naturally, punk.
While Joan Jett 'left' girl band pop, several of the roots stuck with her, giving the album a unique sound. While I'd say all the songs have roots in girl band pop, it's less noticeable with some than others. It's almost disappeared completely with 'Bad Reputation', for example, while it's still relatively clear with 'You Don't Own Me'.
~ Disclaimer ~
As someone who can't stand Gwen Stephani nor Justin Timberlake, I'd like to say while pop songs often are just plain awful, there often are a lot of good pop songs too, and I consider several of the more 'pop' songs on this album to be examples of the latter kind.
~ Thank You ~

Personal opinions on individual songs:
I didn't give any single song a full five stars, but I gave most of the songs 4/5 stars, which is very good, because there aren't that many albums on my iPod like that (like Appetite For Destruction or Back In Black or Toys In The Attic):
1 Bad Reputation (4/5) - a bit over-rated IMO, but a good song anyway, it's pretty popular, obviously.
2 Make Believe (4/5) - one of the better ones.
3 You Don't Know What You've Got (3/5)? - haven't listened to this one much, so don't hold me to that opinion.
4 You Don't Own Me (4/5) - A ballad, almost, I like it.
5 Too Bad On Your Birthday (3/5) - didn't really care for this one.
6 Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) (4/5) - a bit glam-y.
7 Let Me Go (4/5) - a good song.
8 Doing Alright With The Boys (4/5) - one of my favorites from the album, very glam-y.
9 Shout (4/5) - an interesting, fun song.
10 Jezebel (4/5) - a bit darker than the rest of the album.
11 Don't Abuse Me (4/5) - an almost sad song.
12 Wolly Bully (3/5) - a nice cover, but go download the original song by Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs.
13 Call Me Lightning (3/5) - a nice cover, but go download the original song by The Who (whom you may like if you like Joan Jett, actually).
14 Hanky Panky (4/5) - I don't know who this is originally by. . .
15 What Can I Do For You? (3/5) - a nice song nonetheless, almost a bit like children's music actually, strange as that is, that's what I think of.
16 You Don't Own Me (p. u. v. ) - I don't bother with this version of the song, so no opinion.
17 Bad Reputation (live) (2/5) - I love The Ramones, but I *really* did not care for this live version, probably worst track on the album.

1 of 2 Blackheart Records re-release
I LOVE the remake of "Hanky Panky". BONUS material! Another GREAT CD by Joan Jett. And the live video footage. . . . . well worth it.
Bad Reputation gets a great reputation!
She has always been "Rock 'n'Roll" and this album proves it!
The remastering job is very clear and crisp, the vocals better sounding than my original LP, and the bonus tracks make this a real "keeper". I have always been surprised at how little radio airplay Joan and her band receive, especially because like more popular bands like Cheap Trick, she too picks catchy melodies you can remember and rocks them up in similar fashion.
For anyone looking to introduce someone to Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, this CD along with "Ï Love Rock And Roll" are the two to do it with! Buy it, and turn it up!.
