Just too good... If you had to buy just two for desert island play this is my candidate for number two. Next to Wave, an absolutely essential Jobim album. Terry Gilliam must be a fan of this album, as the song "Brazil" was used in the soundtrack of the eponymously titled film.
The most sophisticated Jobim album
The compositions are absolutely wonderful, and were all arranged and conducted by Eumir Deodato -- also at the highlight of his musical competence. Stone Flower is probably the most sophisticated Jobim album, seamlessly crossing over popular & erudite with an amazing simplicity -- that only the truly talented can achieve.
Stone Flower is one of a series of Jobim's titles recorded in the US, during maybe the most prolific and inspired period of the composer. Brazilian and American cats worked together to materialize the beauty that you will experience when listening to Stone flower. Highly recommended.
Superb Jobim
One track has vocals while all the rest are instrumental in the usual Jobim Bossa nova style. Simply an excellent mellow , soothing Cd from the great Jobim.
Excellent recording. Highly recommended !.
Just okay
When opened, the lid of the container was broken at the hinge, maybe only to be expected because of the lack of toughness for international shipping. I think this is the CD that arrived from Argentina in a paper envelope - not cardboard as the other 5 CDs were. Plays okay, though.
Antonio Carlos Jobim Stoneflower, Enjoys Widespread Popularity
Right after World War II, there were two kinds of phonograph turntables, little portable turntables were popular with teenagers, big turntables cost more, they were like investing in a piece of furniture. I have a lovely bit of history that seems to have slipped through the cracks.
As a result, fancy retail stores arranged their big HI-FI's next to the ovens and washer and dryers for sale!
At the end of the aisle, next to all the appliances were a couple rows of LP phonograph records.
My family moved to the Pacific Northwest during the early 60's, east of Seattle over the Floating Bridge in a little town called Lake Hills, Bellevue, it was a relatively new part of town catering to young families and a growing economy.
There were only a couple of fine retail stores that stocked records, record stores didn't appear on the Eastside untill after 1970.
I purchased the LP Antonio Carlos Jobim Wave in the summer of 1971, with my lawnmower money, when I was twelve.
One of my distinct vivid impressions of the early 70's is going next to the fancy washer and dryer Appliance section and admire the record slick of Antonio Carlos Jobim Stoneflower.
Jobim's suit and tie and well groomed look made a big impression on me.
Stoneflower helped define the early 70's. It was a big deal when it appeared on CD.
It's nice to see Wave, Stoneflower and Tide still register with the public.
To this day, whenever I study the front cover of Antonio Carlos Jobim Stoneflower, I'm driven to set aside a little nest egg to purchase my next Jobim.
The songs on Stoneflower are very delicate, they display great mastery, a nice way to unwind.
