Improvement on an Already Excellent Album
"Send Her My Love" and "After the Fall" are two extraordinary power ballads on which Steve Perry's vocals and Neal Schon's guitar take center stage. Journey's 1983 Frontiers album is one of the band's best, featuring many of their most memorable singles, like "Separate Ways," the quintessential arena rock opener. The best track here is "Faithfully," a gorgeous ballad written by Jonathan Cain. Steve Perry's sincere delivery of the lyrics is perfect; the track surpasses even "Open Arms. " The second half of the album loses some steam with songs like "Edge of the Blade" and "Back Talk," but guitar-heavy tracks "Troubled Child" and "Frontiers" help take up the slack. The 2006 re-release vastly improves upon the original by including "Only the Young" and "Ask the Lonely," two songs recorded for Frontiers but used for film soundtracks. They rank among the band's best recordings, and it's great to hear them back where they belong. 4 Stars.

A Darker Sounding Journey
With my personal favorite Journey song, "Separate Ways" and one of my other favorites "Faithfully" I would've considered this to be my favorite but personally Escape has more songs I like such as "Escape", "Open Arms", "Stone in Love", and the ever-so-popular "Don't Stop Believin'". Frontiers is my 2nd Favorite album (After Escape) and to me, I always get a dark vibe whenever I listen to it. Tracks such as "Separate Ways", "Edge of Blade", "Back Talk", "Troubled Child", and even the brighter sounding "Send Her My Love" and "Faithfully" all have dark vibes to them. Not all tracks on Frontiers give me a dark vibe, "After The Fall", "Rubicon", and the under-apprieciated "Frontiers" all sound very bright and up beat to me. Also since this is the reissue with bonus tracks, it also contains "Only Solutions", "Only the Young", "Liberty", and "Ask The Lonely" which to me, blows the Escape reissue away. Frontiers peaked at 2 and like it's brother album Escape, it dropped off 4 singles making Frontiers a great follow-up album after Escape. Overall I recommend it. .

Best Journey album
When this album first came out I played it nonstop. If you want the best CD of Journey's music, then this is the one. That was back in the vinyl album days. . . . . now so many years later I STILL love this music. These guys were so talented and this CD will show you just how much.

I would give it six stars, but amazon.com won't let me.
It sounds so much crisper, clearer are stonger here. Just came across with the remastered "Frontiers," and boy am I impressed. And the two unreleased songs Liberty and Only Solutions are just hidden gems, plus you've got two more extras: Only the Young and Ask the Lonely in the same package! Are you kiddin' me!

Personally, I've favored Frontiers over fan favorite Escape, but haven't listened to the cd for a long time. Can't stop listening to the remastered version. .

Journey fan
I'm replacing all my "vinyls" with CDs. Not one of their best albums but I like anyway.
