A must have for every rocker out there. this is a great band and an excellant album.


Credit where credit is due...
A. This is a reply to the J. Prinz post here. First of all, I want to say that I am a guitarist and love Neal's Schon playing. As a musician, I think Steve Perry is a phenomenal singer. OK, cool. For you to assert that Steve is being a wimp is ludicrous. I totally understand that Neal wanted to move ahead and Tour to support Trial By Fire. But, all Steve did was ask them to wait for the hip surgery and then take it from there. Neal acted like a spoiled brat kid stomping all over the playground for not getting his way and ultimately caused a rift between the band and Steve. Do you know Steve Perry personally? Well, I don't either, so for you to say that it's a "joke" that Steve never felt part of Journey just shows that it is YOU that needs to grow up not Steve for being honest about his feelings. Do you know what was going on in his head and heart? I didn't think so. Since you've apparently been in a cave for the last 20 years, women appreciate a man who is not afraid to show his feelings, but that's another conversation you probably wouldn't understand. Let's be honest, as much myself and MANY gazillion fans LOVE the "progressive pre-perry" Journey, Neal and co. would have been dropped from the record label, and perhaps not been as rich and successful as they all ended up being. Perhaps a modicum of appreciation is due to Perry? Hmmm. . . If you (and any other Journey Fan for that matter) want to blame someone in Journey for not continuing their incredible legacy with Perry, look no further than the Band. I guess Neal had to subsidize his (apparent) Botox injections, pay for a divorce and alcohol rehab at the expense of the Band and millions of fans around the World. I hope it was worth it Neal, because you BLEW it.


Journey's "Departure" From The 70's Into The 80's!
It was also their first Top 10 album(#8),continuing their ascent from journeyman rockers to mainstream pop/rock hitmakers which,with the addition of Jonathan Cain on keys,would finally pay off the following year with "Escape". Released in early 1980,"Departure" was the last album to feature Gregg Rolie on keyboards and vocals. Back to this album,it kicks off in stellar form with Journey's most popular rockers "Any Way You Want It" and moves on to a very diverse set of songs-the bluesy tinge of "Walks Like A Lady" and "Precious Time";the melodic AOR of "Someday Soon"(the last time Gregg Rolie sang on a Journey album)and "People And Places"(which features Neal Schon on vocals along with Steve Perry);the straight-up hard-rockers "Where Were You" and "Line Of Fire",and the dramatic,emotional ballads "I'm Crying" and "Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile",which would be,like or not,Steve Perry's trademark for the 1980's. The only track that doesn't work is "Homemade Love",a boogie-rocker that fall flat. Luckily,this album has been reissued with two strong tracks:the soulful "Natural Thing",which was the B-side to "Don't Stop Believin",and the searing "Little Girl",which first appeared on the "Dream After Dream" soundtrack. This reissue also has excellent remastering (done by Dave Donnelly at DNA Mastering),which is superior to previous CD editions, and a nice 16-page booklet contain photos,press clips,tour dates,and other memorabilia from the "Departure" period. Plus it's dirt cheap too. Essential for any Journey fan!.


To Steve Perry
To Steve Perry (and I KNOW he will read this): Quit being such a WUSS. if you are going to act this way then remove your contract from Journey and let them perform without paying you. Believe it or not Journey DOES go on without you. Neal is playing his BEST EVER guitar work. And while their current foreign singer (name "escapes" me) really was a huge mistake, Augeri was awesome and I hope he comes back. Frankly I listen to his work with Journey almost daily. . its is incredible. He doesnt sing like you or try to copy you (listen to his previous work Steve) he is a singer with soul. . are you "better" than him? Well, music is a state of preference. . so there is no correct answer to that. . so you go on doing your stupid remastering projects and thinking about whether you want to put yourself out there and do some solo stuff. Thats fine. . nothing wrong with that. . but in YOUR words: leave Journey ALONE.

Oh and "I never really felt I was part of Journey". . what a joke. You acted like a jacka$$ while you were in Journey Steve. . grow up. . call Neal and make your peace. . lose the weight you put on, and maybe drop down an octave and perform NEW material. . dont even do the old stuff if you cant anymore. . dont do anything to tarnish your history. . just be who you are NOW and do your best. .

I only tell you this because I have seen Neal recently and Im telling you he is at his all time best! You are missing something! Please boot that Perry sound alike they have now. . UGH. . . NEAL! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?? .


Take a journey with Journey...
Don't get me wrong, I love ALL manifestations of Journey, but I believe this album IS Journey. Definitely my favorite album of Journey's, by far. No other album captures Schon's guitar prowess, Smith's jazz/swing inspired beats, or Perry's ridiculously amazing voice. . . I mean. . . should any man be able to hit the notes he does in, "Homemade Love"??? Love it!.
