What more can you say.. It still Journey, but a more a of a mellow side. They showed growth on this album. This is a great album.
Journey "Trial By Fire"
Can't get enough of it. Excellent. His voice just keeps getting better and better. This CD rocks and the guitar rocks.
Love it.
They are my two favorite "Journey with Steve Perry" albums. For me, Trial By Fire is right up there with Escape. His voice has changed a lot over the years, and on the Trial By Fire album it is absolutely mesmerizing. Husky. Soulful. Super sexy. The songs these boys wrote after being apart for so long are amazing, too. My personal faves from the album: When You Love A Woman, Forever In Blue, Still She Cries, When I Think Of You, Easy To Fall, It's Just The Rain, Trial By Fire, and Baby I'm Leaving You. Aw, hell, I love it all.
It certainly didn't go down in Flames
It has some new things that has never been attempted by Journey like an almost metal sounding "One More", "Baby I'm Leaving You" has a reggae feel, and the most unique song they've ever pulled off, "Color of the Spirit" has a more world/tropical feel. While many people say this was the weakest link in Steve Perry's Journey, I actually found the music on this album to be their best writing ever. Also as their times where changing they did some more "New Journey" sounding songs like "Can't Tame the Lion", "Castle's Burning", and "Trial By Fire" all sound like something from Arrival or Generations. However this was not just an experimental album, there were Journey-type songs. The album kicks of with a Separate Ways type "Message of Love", Beautiful ballads such as the mega ballad "When You Love a Woman", An Open Arms sounding "When I Think of You", "Don't Be Down on Me Baby", and "It's Just the Rain", a Don't Stop Believin' sounding "Forever in Blue", and "Still She Cries" which sounds very similar to tracks from Departure, Evolution, and Infinity. "I Can See it in Your Eyes", the bonus track, reminds me a little bit of "Line of Fire". Many people who listened to this probably listened to it once and said they hated it. I know I was guilty of it. However unlike most people, I gave it a second chance and now that I've heard it multiple times, I really do appreciate this album. It may not be the 80s Journey everyone was hoping for in 1996 and it's the only album not to support a tour, but it was a unique part in Journey's history that everyone who likes Journey should take a listen to.
Classic Journey
I rate this one on the same level as the Escape album. This album is great! I am a Journey fan, so I am happy to listen to all of their music. They are both worth every penny!!!.
