Heart @ Soul box set review
Heart @ Soul tidys up all the outtakes and single releases randomly collected on Still and Substance and places them with their respective signature albums; Unknown Pleasures and Closer. First and formost if you are new to Joy Division or obsessed, like i am, this box set is a fine place to start, or finish off your collection. The first disc is Unknown Pleasures Plus and the second is Closer Plus. The third disc collects further outtakes, demos, radio sessions, and rare tracks; like - In a lonely place - and - Ceremony - taken directly off a rehearsal tape provided by Peter Hooks. The forth disc is entirely unreleased live material; Live at the Factory, July 13,1979; live at Prince Wales YMCA, London, Aug 2, 1979; Live at Wintergardens Bournemouth, Nov 2,1979; live at Lyceum ballroom, London, Feb 29, 1980. Joy Divisions dark cavernous spaces and ever darker lyrics are deeply envoking and stir the heart and soul within the listener. Joy Division used the energy of punk, but unlike punk with its simple message of F-this and F-that and F-you, Joy Division channeled this energy into a deeper lyric; sublimely dark music; a message crafted by their legendary front-man, Ian Curtis. A man who was the bands eyes and ears; a man who used a public artform, music, to air-out his worries, problems, inner demons, medical problems, and failing marriage. The courage that took, i still cant wrap my mind around. Their music defined a time and place and is still relevent today. Joy Division is not for the faint of heart or the casual listener; they are reserved for those who have a dark streak in their soul that needs to be tamed or fed. "We knocked on the doors of Hells darker chamber,Pushed to the limit,we dragged ourselves in. " Ian Curtis, Decades. .

The 'joy' of Joy Division!
After watching the flick Control, I realized I had to pay my respects to Ian by purchasing this box set and what an amazing set it is. No Doubt were Joy Division ahead of its time. I'm not a huge fan of live material, but outside of somce of the live tracks, this is supertight ! When all bands honor joy division as pioneers, this set is already highly recommended by the music industry. So my review is just an extension of everyone else. This set does no dissapoint and has an awesome booklet and the tracks sounds remastered and clear (and actually louder than other joy division releases).

Must own collection of breakthrough music
I paid a fortune for it back in 1999. I bought this when it came out in England. It is worth every penny. All of Joy Divisions songs and then some. A must have for any fan of music and especially for a groundbreaking band that have gone on to influence more bands then they could have ever imagined. .
