Customer Reviews
Good background music.
This album does it's job but does not inspire much. Like most instrumental alblums sometimes they can become background music. Except that is for the untitled track 3 which is a masterclass in Ebow guitar. Buy it just for track 3 I say.

A Masterpiece
The primary reason is that he has brillantly developed an album that is a mustical journey with each track complementing the next. I find this to simply be Phil Keaggy's greatest work. Further the talent he uses to support this "fly" stringed instrument is nothing but astonishing:Burchfield, Williams and Darken lend support. Wanda Burchfield's violin is haunting, yet, peaceful.

This CD is an escape into a musical illusion. If you happen to come across it, do not put the purchase of it off until another time. It is a genuine masterpiece.

A guitarists view
I'm a mediocre guitarist, and have been continually awed by his mastery of expression on the guitar. I can listen to Phil play the guitar for days on end, and have been doing so for more than 15 years. 'On The Fly' is, for the most part, a performance on a guitar called the Parker Fly--hence the name of the album. The Fly is a unique instrument, and a dream to play. No one who has gotten to play one will ever forget it. The most remarkable piece on the album is the 24 minute 'Sojourner. ' If you will, the listener gets to attend an extended jam session as Phil explores and stretches the limits of this incredible guitar. I own every instrumental album Keaggy has published so far, and I would rate this 3rd, just behind Acoustic Sketches & the Wind and the Wheat.
