Look In The Past With Wonder
The lead guitarist, Phil Keaggy, left for a successful solo career and Glass Harp was defunct. Glass Harp has always kept a firm foot in their past, and why not? They had a quick jump out of the gates with three great albums in the early 70's. They occasionally got back for reunion gigs and have since released another studio album, a live concert with the Youngstown Symphony and a 3 disc collection of jams from different live gigs. This album though is a harkening back to their old days when they were on tour with The Kinks, performing at Carnegie Hall in 1972.
It is a solid 45 minutes of Glass Harp's classic prog-rock. There are only 5 tracks, but each one of them fills the Hall with intensity, passion, and an almost youthful naievity. Each song feels heavier than the next. It's amazing that three piece bands can create as much power and sound as they do and Glass Harp is no exception.
"Look in the Sky" is a great groove piece opening the concert. "Never Is A Long Time" is a dirty, ragged rock anthem that gets the audience participating vocally. "Do Lord" is a jam to a classic worship song. "Changes" spotlights the rhythm and possibly the band's heaviest song ever. The real highlight though is the final track, "Can You See Me", a 28 minute jam, taking time for each band member to step into the spotlight with guitar solos, drum solos and yes, for you Jethro Tull fans out there, a flute solo. The jam segues in and out of other songs in their catalouge in a sort of medley, but in the end returning to "Can You See Me" making the whole piece feel complete and shorter than it really is.
". . . Carnegie Hall" is a fantastic album. Everyone and I mean everyone who loves rock/hard rock, should get this album. It's a testament to a band that hit hard and fast in a brief career, who's star shined bright and dimmed way too soon.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder why people say that Phil is one of the best if not THE best guitar players in the world, I an amazed at his talent. This live recording is phenominal. The other thing I like about this album is the jam bandish feel of it. I have been looking for a Christian jam band for a while my search has ended. It is really ashame that their career was so short.
The drum solo on this record is shocking(I am a drummer myself). I have never heard anybody play the drums with that much skill before. GET THIS ALBUM!!!!!!! .
Say What?
Not impressed. . . . . at all! If this is a power trio, then I'm a bald headed banty rooster! No more coffee for you guys!.
