Customer Reviews Very good but a little bit the same from song to song His songs are great and this is another prime example. I have three Tommy Keene albums - and I wonder how he didn't become a big star. One star deducted because his songs all seem to go to the same sound - a great sound - but after a whole album's worth it is a little redundant. This may be due to the fact that I just started listening. Sometimes with more time invested the differences unfold themselves to my untrained ear. So, well worth buying - but don't expect it to be the only cd you will ever want to listen to. It may become ONE of your desert island discs. Perfect Despite the omission of the title song (which showed up on "The Real Underground"), this EP is possibly the most perfect example of guitar-driven power pop ever recorded. If you didn't already know Keene's stuff, you wouldn't be reading this, so you've probably already sought this one out. Worth 3 times the cheap used price above. Classic Guitar Pop I first heard him in the mid-eighties when a friend recommended his PLACES THAT ARE GONE EP. Tommy Keene, originally from Washington DC, has been turning out exquisitely crafted jangly guitar pop for almost twenty years now. Always a sucker for a well-turned hook, I was as much impressed by his command of the genre as I was confused by the fact that he wasn't a superstar. Thankfully he's managed to continue recording despite the lack of sales. I've purchased each album and never been disappointed! This five-song EP was released in 1992 after a three-year absence following his epic BASED ON HAPPY TIMES (currently deleted). Every tune is great and representative of the rest of his catalog.
