Awesome
And wow, what a different sound! It seems to be a lot closer to their earlier sound than to the stuff of the 80's, in that it's a bit more "noisy. This album was my first KC album after Three of a Perfect Pair. " However, it never really goes into the actual I'm-going-to-beat-your-ears-out-through-your-eyeballs levels that KC sometimes had.

I don't think that most of the songs are as creative as KC has done in the past, though. That's not to say they aren't good, it's just that there weren't as many moments where I could say "Wow, that was a new sound" as I've had on some of their other albums.

My favorites are Eyes Wide Open, Elektrik, and Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With. The last song is probably one of my favorite songs period, actually. The lyrics are some of Belew's best, and the sound is so different from anything KC has done(from what I've heard of them).

There's probably a lot of stuff I should be writing about in here, but I can't think of it right now. So I'll just say that if you are looking for a great KC album(but not a revolutionary one), you should definitely give this one a look. .

King Crimson fan
What a talented band, if you like progressive music, get this. I got my copy of 7/6/09 - It's great, I first listened to the Great Deceiver, both kick it. .

A much better Compact King Crimson
Fripp seems to have gotten over his adversion to some of the early KC stuff and here we get a more well rounded release. While a couple of the songs are edits and nothing from Larks Tongues appears, this still gives a better example of King Crimson than The Compact King Crimson. The sound quality is also much better on this one on the band's then new label Caroline. This is the one for people who want a good short introduction to the band.

I'm partial to the newer stuff

I would have been better off buying "Three of a Perfect Pair" and "Discipline" separately. I attempted to wimp out and get all the good King Crimson songs on one CD, and I did, technically, I'm just partial to everything after Adrian Belew joined the band.

Still, I've learned to enjoy several of the older songs, just not quite as much.

A pocket edition for beginners
This is a pretty good album for those who want to be innitiated into King Crimsom music , this is a band not very easy to listen or to follow because of the complicated train of lyrics and musical variations wich is so rich that you need to dedicate several listening sessions; the order of the tracks is chronological wich helps to appreciate a lot more the creatve progression and evolution of this legends of progressive rock, the addition of elements that goes from blues, Heavy Metal, ambient music, and jazzy rythms are evident as you hear track by track, and you get fascinated for this unique creativity that still provides to this days new inspiration for new eclectic and non eclectic bands, a priceless musical document
