Buy It, Love It, Live It.....Or Burn In Heeeeeeelllllllllll!!!!! What the hell?
Well, with Halloween right around the corner, everyone should dig out their King Diamond albums for a spin or two(and if you don't own at least one King Diamond album, you'd best get with the friggin' program!). Looking over my past reviews I was surprised to see that I wrote reviews of all King Diamond albums but this one. As you may or may not know, Conspiracy is a sequel to the previous album, "Them". The main character, "King" is still haunted(literally) by his dead sister and has been released from the booby hatch. But the ghosts of Grandma, Missy and "Them" aren't about to leave him be and before you know it, he's back at the old house where he makes a bargain with "Them". Throw in King's therapist, Dr. Landau and King's mother and you have. . . . . a Conspiracy! The story tones down the supernatural elements just a tad and focuses a bit more on the psychological angle.
The mistake I see made when people review an album that's a sequel to a previous album, is that they inevitably compare the sequel to it's predecessor in terms of it's quality. This has happened with Abigail 2, Operation: Mindcrime 2 and Keeper Of The Seven Keys The Legacy to name a few. That's kinda silly, coz a sequel in terms of story should really have no bearing on the music. It's a totally different album altogether.
But in the case of Conspiracy, it makes a perfect companion to "Them". It has a similar sound and most folks agree that it is just as good if not better than "Them". King was definitely on a roll for a few years here. Great catchy and heavy metal with a few prog touches here and there. And of course, King's love em or hate em Scrotum-Caught-In-A-Paper-Shredder vocals.
If you dig horror stories, buy it with "Them". But make no mistake, the album works 100% fine on it's own.
King Diamond's finest hour!!
Pure metal, no fluff. Like so many other people here have said, this is easily one of KD's best albums. Fantastic ranges of all instruments involved making it arguably a progressive metal album. Soaring melodies in every minute of music. You could waste you money on worse things than this or you could buy this metal work-of-art.
WOW
Amazing singing and some of the best guitar work ever heard. Incrediable CD. Tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 are so awesome.
Conspiracy ROCKS!

my favorite
to me this is a much betr written and played album than them. i dont remember liking a sequal this much ever. this beast from beginning to end just floors me to this day after being out for almost 20 years. the whole cd is a highlight so unless you listen to the whole thing you just wont get how great this is. and teh 2 bonus tracks on the remaster cremation which you can loop for a halloween party or at the grave alt mix its just a great cd.
