The thing is, the King records are album-based and very rarely do the songs have anywhere near their maximum impact in isolation. I hate to give a King album 1 star; I'm listening to Conspiracy right now. Furthermore, there are some wonderful albums not represented here, and King's worst album (Spider's Lullaby) has some tracks. This isn't really a King album, just a compilation put together by one of the labels that carried his stuff for a few years.

Wanna rock out to some King? Start with Puppet Master--diehards don't always like it as much as the stuff from the 80s, but it's the most approachable King. Follow on with reading the Abigail lyrics and then listening to Abigail 2, or reading the Them lyrics and listening to Conspiracy.

"Nightmares In The Nineties"
This retrospective gathers together tracks from King's solo career on the Metal Blade record label from 1995 through 2000. What a waste of an opportunity! King Diamond is one of metal music's most unique, original artists and this compilation can barely be considered a "Best Of". The albums represented are "The Spider's Lullabye", "The Graveyard", "Voodoo" and "House Of God". But where is the title track from "The Spider's Lullabye"? Where is Black Hill Sanitarium, the ferocious opening number off "The Graveyard"? Where are classic tunes like The Poltergeist, Voodoo and Black Devil? Why are songs like the so-so Just A Shadow and instrumental Peace Of Mind represented here instead? And WHY are the tracks all mixed up and not in order according to album? King Diamond's recordings are concept albums and to split the songs up like this shows how carelessly this collection was put together. On the positive side, this set DOES include the phenomenal LOA House, the bass-heavy The Trees Have Eyes and a couple other solid tracks. I'm a huge King Diamond fan and if you ask me, this CD is lacking. It's VERY simple to compile an excellent overview of the King's work on the Metal Blade label considering the fact that MANY of the songs he produced during this time period are outstanding. Unfortunately, the producers at Massacre Records chose to clutter this album with predominantly less interesting material.

"It's driving me crazy........"
Nice "best of. . " King Diamond release from various tracks off his albums in the nineties. No real surprises. It's not a "gotta have" for long time Diamond buffs, as most fans have these tunes on their CDs, but a good intro to new Diamond-bangers. Only buy to complete your King Diamond collection.
