Fantastic metal album Better even than the first Abigal. One of the best metal albums made. The jettisoning of the falsetto voice makes this album a must for any metal fan. Thanks be to the King.
Excellent!!
Fatal Potrait, Abigail, Them, Conspiracy etc. I started from the beginning. . This album is awesome. Great music and story. It takes about 3 listens to appreciate it. On the fourth listen. . . goosebumps.
King Diamond rules once more
I was looking for a more emotional melodic songs and i found it on this album. First of all when i heard this album it was nothing i expected. Andy Larocque with his brilliant guitar work makes puppet master sound alot catchier from earlier songs (voodoo, house of god)etc. Plus the story is great too. This album is definitely one of king's darkest and disturbing album he ever created. Everyone knows Abigail and Them were his best works but the Puppet Master is right up there with them. For the first time king has added a female vocalist Livia Zita who really shines on this album with her beautiful voice. If you thought king diamond vocals were annoyng from his past albums then the puppet master is for you 4. 5.
VERY Good
This album takes about two concentrated listens to get through. I think the people whom didn't like this album refused to give it a real chance. Notice I wrote CONCENTRATED, which means: listening to this on Rhapsody is not going to give an accurate perception of this.
Rhapsody is where I first listened to this, straight through, and while I heard really cool things here and there, I wasn't sure whether I wanted the cd or not. Then, my fiancee came through with it (a surprise). I was excited, mainly because I had heard the potentisl of this disc from the Rhapsody experience. After really having LISTENED to it (you know, in a focused, fully-here-in-the-moment mindset) twice all the way through, I'm convinced that this is the best release from King Diamond since his reunion lp with Mercyful Fate, "In the Shadows".
I had purchased and heard "Give Me Your Soul. . . Please" quite a before this one, and liked it alot. But this album just sounds overall more inspired, espcially in terms of the story line and guitar work. The latter variable features some of the best neo-classical playing since Fate's "Don' Break the Oath". And no. I'm not kidding.
If you've stayed away from King Diamond out of disappointment for awhile (say, since career low "Voodoo"), take my word you can now cast your worries aside. This is the best solo album he's done since Them. . . give me another year and I might say it matches even that one.
Amazing
Best part, it's catchy. This album is what gothic metal SHOULD be!
Dark, haunting, and full of emotion.
