Selling Out? Not a Chance
The music rocked, the lyrics were at times juvenile but Caleb's voice has an aged quality to it that makes even the dumbest lyrics sound plausible. Kings of Leon had slowly gathered a pretty dedicated following with their previous releases; Youth & Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times, and rightly so. I was leery of Only By the Night because everyone described it as a much more "polished" album, and when I think of KOL, I don't want to think of polished. Later, after hearing their first single, Sex On Fire, I was very disappointed. However, this album as a whole is amazing. It is full of what you have come to expect from a KOL album, namely catchy guitar hooks, great singing and some pretty dumb lyrics (Sex on Fire being the prime example). The standouts of this album have to be "Be Somebody", "17" and "Notion". They are not as rockin' as earlier Kings songs but they are definitely catchy and Caleb's voice sounds as strong and soulful here as it ever has. If you like Kings Of Leon, buy this album, and listen to it a couple times. You'll realize that it more than equals their earlier works. Can't wait to hear what they do next. .

Awesome!
The CD case had some cracks, but the CD was unharmed. The seller shipped the item in a timely manner. The cracks may have occurred during shipping. I would highly recommend the CD and seller!.

can't swing a dead cat without encountering this bubblegum!
His masturbatory stylings over a bed of rehashed bruce springsteen cliches is so incredibly annoying! AHHH make him stop!. Why is this pabulum constantly on regular rock stations? The singer's overearnest bubblegum yodeling bring to mind more than anything a lively game of soggy biscuit.

a few great songs on here
I'm sure it's grea though. Honestly I've been listening to my safetysuit CD so much that I've only listened to the songs that I already knew by Kings of Leon on this album.

Their best so far

Totally different to their debut but still great. Amazing album, almost any song could be a radio single.
Cold desert is an amazing song.
