THE Kittie Album Then I heard kitties cover of run like hell on the radio, and I decided to give them a second chance. I was one of the people who listened to kittie's first album when it came out, and thought to myself, what a load of crap.
Today, Kittie is one of my favorite bands. My opinion about their first album still stands, but this album is MUCH more refined than that one. It's more mature and varied offering from this great band. There's furious songs on here like Oracle, Mouthful of Posion, What I've always wanted, then there are melancholy songs like Safe, and In winter.
There's even an 11 minute DOOM song??? WHAT????
This album is incredible. I can listen to it, at any time and it never gets old. Period. Not only are they a great band, but a great live act too. And this album is the one that started them down a road to their greatness. .
Drivel
But when I got the album I was absolutely stunned that this band even had a record deal, let alone a number of releases. After hearing the still awesome single 'What I Always Wanted' I definitely wanted more, and as much as I'd like to say looks were not part of my decision I'd be lieing. If it weren't for the producer this band wouldn't know where to start with making music.
While I still enjoyed 'What. . . ' I also (initially) liked 'Safe' 'Run Like Hell' and, umm, yeah. But after a while I stopped trying to get into the rest of the monotonous crap, and started to realize that the tracks, minus 'What I Always Wanted', which I still listen to very occasionally to reminisce of past musical tastes, were pretty bad too.
Honestly nothing on this album really surpasses that garage band quality, with songs that go nowhere, have no real style, vocals that all sound the same, and really, REALLY lame lyrical content; did I mention yet that the instrumentation is EXACTLY the same on every track, excluding 'Safe'? (It's a slow piano tune). When I first excitedly played this album I had some trouble figuring out which song was which because they all sounded the same.
I thing I recall reading something about how one of the members of the band's father or some other contact was/is part of the record company, which I think may be the only reason this band managed to go from crap songs played in a basement to crap songs I bought for $13.
Oh yeah, there's a 'secret' live recording on the last track, but don't waste your time waiting to hear it. Hell, don't waste your time with this band at all.
Dare I Say "Greatest Female Metal Album" ?
I'll make this short and sweet. .
I will admit that it took some getting used to but Oracle has some great songs that at first are easily overlooked such as Mouthful of Poison, Pain and Pink Lemonade. However ones that immediately caught my attention were In Winter, Run Like Hell, What I've Always Wanted and Safe. If you were to sample any Kittie album this should be the one. It's extremely melodious but not without being tremendously ferocious. -And if you do enjoy this I would highly recommend you listen to Otep's "Sevas Tra" album. I was very skeptical when someone recommended Otep to me using Kittie as a basis of interest but I checked into them anyway and I am so glad I did. .
Best Kittie Album, maybe one of the greatest Albums ever
I'm a child of the 80's and 90's so I missed out on the Nu-Metal trend as I've been focusing on raising a family and progressing my career. Recent Kittie fan here blown away by what I'm hearing. Thanks to Youtube and Myspace I've come across some new stuff particularily Kittie and Otep. As a guy who always believed Nirvana was the last great rock group, I'm pleasantly surprised to say there's still some innovation in the hard rock genre, and Kittie has contributed quite nicely. I never thought I could listen to guttural style singing, but the way Morgan combines it with her very feminine melodic voice, I've become quite fond of it. Listening to her range on "What I always Wanted" actually makes my hair stand up on end. I'm also enjoying the lyrics, and can honestly say if I had a daughter, I'd hope she'd listen to this stuff as opposed to what most teenage girls are listening to today aka Avril and Brittany. My hope is to someday see a death match betwen Avril Lavigne and Mercedes Landers.
i want to slap the person that told me to buy this cd
so,i've taken another listen, yet i still can't see why so many people loved this cd. i bought this album(i think i was about 17) hoping beyond hope that it would be atleast half as good as most people were telling me,but it wasn't at the time. all the 'non-bitching and moaning' that was supposedly absent was there, it was just covered under the lead vocalists inaudible growls and grunts.
you know,i think i have a new respect for the bands people call emo, because while they might be whiney and sometimes trite atleast they are whiney and trite clearly. i'd personally recommend listening to cannibal corpse or arch enemy if you just have to listen to guttural lyrics with a dark edge.
