kittie has hit the big time. WOW what a great album!!!!!!!!!!!) I couldn't believe how awesome this album was. The first time i heard this album i was like 'dude did that just happen, i need to play it again. And it was about time morgan sang more (which in the long run helps record sells and can please more rock/metal fans than just growling. ) but not to worry all of you she still growls and rocks throu the roof on a couple songs. more melody and lyrics that i understand and can connect with. especilly the song 'what could have been'. 'breathe' out right kicks butt and it's a good song to drive 85 miles an hour down the highway with. funeral for yesterday, witch hunt, every song on this album is just so great that i can't pick favs. listen from start to finish and you wont be sorry. dvd is great too with funeral for yesterday music video, interviews, making of album footage, photo shoot.
BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Not the same Kittie
This is not the same band. If you like Spit, Oracle, and Until the End, beware. Kittie used to be a throwback metal band, the coolest all-girl TRUE metal band ever. With the new guitarist and bassist they have become an alternative NU-metal band. They sound clean and crisp and belong on the radio. The songs aren't bad, and it's not a bad album. There is a lot more "singing" and a lot less shouting, which I do not consider a good thing. But it's the fact that they have become alternative-metal instead of traditional metal which is the most disappointing.
Not my favorite....
I've been listening to them since the beginning. It's still better than spit, and I'm a big kittie fan. This song evolves them to a sound much more poppy than anything they've done before. There's some good tracks, but I'd rather listen to Oracle any day.
If you're looking for something heavy, look elsewhere, this one sounds like it could be a donnas record. . . . There are a few good tracks on this album though, Breathe, Never Again, Witch hunt, Flower of flesh and blood.
Slight Disappointment
Both Oracle and Until the End rank as two of my favorite albums ever. I've bought all 4 Kittie albums in the past 3 months and have enjoyed experiencing their evolution from teen garage band to accomplished heavy metal musicians. I'm afraid they took a step backwards with this one though. In a way I think they've stepped back into pre-grunge heavy metal more along the lines of Tesla or Queensryche. I admire their addition of guitar solos and more complex arrangements, but they've lost some origininality here. I also have a problem with the recording and production on this album. Morgan sounds like she was recorded in a box. I lover her voice, but she sounds best when backed by heavy chords in a more open stadium style recording. Even their traditional Kittie style songs on this album such as "This too Shall Pass", sound better live than on this album. All I can say, is I'm waiting for their next one, hoping they get back on track. Also hoping they pick up one of their original bassists, maybe Talena or Jennifer now that Trish is gone. .
Kittie burps the alphabet for fun AND profit?
Specifically tracks 4,6,9,11,12,13 and 14. After listening to "Funeral" several times, and not knowing anything about the band, I would say that half the album is great, the other half is a burping contest. (BURP!!!) BTW, the very first band that started this "growling", "screaming" or what have you, was unique, but every band since then that does it comes off sounding trite, cliche and like a running joke. Any band could do a song with the singer burping the alphabet and be just as relevant and "spooky". Kittie, ditch the "hair-ball gagging" and stick with singing. You'll be better off.
The title song kicks off the CD along with some sweet vocals planted throughout. The lead guitar races in the second track and blazes all the way to the end. The rest of the CD is good until it starts to fall into the gimicky "throat" (as one reviewer called it) right around track 4. My interest began to lag between numbers until the final 4 tunes when I figured the joke had run its course. (I listened all the way through, I didn't bail out early. )
Now about Kittie. . . Morgan is a great singer, regardless of who she might sound like. Mercedes is a good, steady drummer but she could stand to lose the triple bass pedal so we can really hear her stuff. Tara is a solid guitarist. No stupid sonic tricks like, say, Zakk Wylde, just gritty riffs or melodic playing throughout. They had better keep her! Trish has some nice meaty bass lines running through the disc. I watched the DVD and have determined that these four musicians really are on the same wavelength. It's not two sisters with some new side players. Their interplay is very cohesive and tight. I won't even sink to comparing them to any previous "girl groups". There are none.
Suggestions to purchasers: if you like rock with a decidedly heavy feel, you'll like this album. If you like a female singer that can make her own way, buy this. If you like a lead guitar player that could show the guys a few things, buy this. If you are into "growling", "screaming", etc. I suggest you buy a 2-liter bottle of root beer, chug it real fast, then start burping along with half this album because that's all you'll get to satisfy you. That, and a little dribble of spit rolling down your chin from the root beer foam.
