Great for an experimental album.
However, on this album, thrash is not what you find. Kreator is one of the greatest thrash bands out there, albums like Extreme Aggression, Terrible Certainty, and Coma of Souls are all excellent thrash metal classics. It seems that nearly every thrash band changed styles in some form in the early 90's, and Kreator was no exception. The difference however, Kreator didn't follow trends and make an album that would appeal to non metalheads and get massive radio play, no, they kept their aggression, but mixed in a strange industrial sound. What you get is something that somewhat reminds me of Slayer's Divine Intervention, however this album is good, and I thought Divine Intervention sucked.
Get this if you want a little something different from an excellent thrash band. Also check out Endorama if you want another cool experimental Kreator album.
the worst kreator release ever!
them music scene was changing alot at this time but this change was to much and a poor choice. sadly after coma of souls and extreme aggression they desided to change the formula an with that they lost alot of fans.
the worst cd in their career seriously save your time & money
I like alot of different music but this is a lame duck. this is one of the cds were kreator experimented with their music and they lost this round. they tried a more industrial type of music but is a lost chance to improve thier sound i owned this cd for years but i can't remember anything about it but it was awfull and i couldn't stand the cd. this is the worst kreator cd ever.
I like it
For me its a Sign of the times album with what the Metal scene was evolving to. For me Renewal is a slower Kreator album but I guess coming right after Coma of souls it was a dissapointment to most. Incidentally 92-97 were bad years for metal with the "alternative " sound being popular and thrash bands losing contracts to bands like Collective soul and lame bands like that. Anyway Renewal is not like Coma or Extreme but it blows away anything bands like Anthrax, Metallica and Testament were doing at the time.
Different But Solid release
In fact after a couple of listens. This isn't a bad release. It's in fact a great record.
Overall songs are a bit slower than peviuos releases, but there are 2 good thrashers
"Brainseed and "Europe afer the Rain".
The production is excellent, the sampling isn't all that bad also.
Songwriting is pretty creative, I give this 5 stars.
