You might try another collection CD The only thing I would like to have known in advance is that Me and Bobby McGee, The Pilgrim and Caseys Last Ride were live recordings. CD includes 7 of his biggest hits. I would have preferred studio recordings.
Great songs but beware.....
If that's not what you're looking for, there are better collections available. Great songs, obviously, and a good selection that includes just about every song the casual fan might want to own, but a little truth in advertising would be helpful: three of these songs (Me and Bobby McGee, The Pilgrim, and Casey's Last Ride) are live recordings.
Wonderful CD
He is and always has been my favorite songwriter. I am a big fan of Kris Kristofferson's music. The songs are great.
Brings back old memories!
He may not have had the best voice, but, boy could he write some great songs! Although many of these songs were recorded by other artists, there's something special about Kris's singing. This CD contains most Kris's greatest hits. Nobody can sing "Why Me" or "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" like Kris Kristofferson. These are truly classics. .
EXCEPTIONAL SONGS
Songs like Sunday Morning Coming Down, For The Good Times and Help Me Make It Through The Night demonstrate his unique compositional skills and ability to capture universal feelings and moods. Most of these tracks come from Kristofferson's classic Me & Bobby McGee album from 1971 and they're all masterpieces with numerous cover versions. Me & Bobby McGee was beautifully transformed into a soulful rock song by Janis Joplin whilst Gordon Lightfoot's flowing folk rendition also remains a classic. The gospel song Why Me was probably Kristofferson's greatest hit as it stayed on the Billboard Hot Hundred for months in about 1973/1974. Although there are more comprehensive best of collections from this sadly neglected singer and composer, this collection contains most of his best work and is a pleasure to return to again and again.
