One Of The Finest From The West Coast (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars)
To me that song was the jam, and really acquired me to be a fan of Kurupt Young Gotti, as well as Daz Dillinger (who appears on this album just as much as Kurupt does). I remember back when I was the 8th grade when I first saw the video of "Who Ride Wit Us". Unfortunately, it never crossed my mind to purchase the album, until early this year. When you really think about it, this album was slept on because 2001 was released the same day.

But when you really look at it, 1999 was one of the west coast's best years. This album really has the west coast sound that makes it so distintive and unique. A standout to me was "I Call Shots" when Kurupt puts his younger brother Roscoe on (also check out the sequel on Young Roscoe Philaphornia). "Represent Dat G. C. " is one of the better tracks and features a lot of popular west coast artists. "Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha*****" and "Don't Trust Nobody" is held down by excellent production. He gets at the ladies with songs like "Girls All Pause" which features Roscoe and Nate Dogg; and "Ho's A Housewife" which also appeared on 2001. The only difference between the two is that Dr. Dre's verse is modified (he doesn't ad-lib on this version, also he says "Houston" instead of "Dallas"). "Ain't **** Without My Homeboyz" reminds me of what friends are for and stick by you during your hard times, as that is what Kurupt rhymes about.

Kurupt steps out of his boundaries and goes east and south with "Live On The Mic" and "Tequilla" respectively. The former features KRS-One and he and Kurupt kick dope verses from a lyrical standpoint. The latter feaures T-Mo from Goodie Mob and up and comming singer Nivea and is produced by Organized Noize. The bonus track "Callin' Out Names", Kurupt aims his lyrics mostly at DMX and Foxy Brown (rumor of a relationship between the two), as well as Murder Inc.

Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha is a high quality west coast album. Albums like this is why I enjoy west coast rap so much. It also shows Kurupt at his peak. With the help of artists like Snoop, Xzibit, Soopafly, Dr. Dre, Tha Eastsidaz, and others, they help elevate this album, boardering a classic. If you slept on this, go a head and pick this up. Peace!!
