Overall a good CD
I love a variety of music styles in my collection and Cyndi always satisfies with music from various genres. I think even people who are not real fans of Cyndi Lauper should give this CD a listen and they may see how talented this woman is.

My favorites on this CD are: Shine, It's Hard to Be Me, Who Let in the Rain?, Eventually, Valentino, and Waters Edge.

"Waters Edge" is particularly stunning and beautifully done. "It's Hard to Be Me" is just a fun track (one of my favorite all time songs from Cyndi)

Try it for yourself! This is just my opinion and you, the potential buyer, may like other tracks on this CD too.

My personal favorite from Cyndi Lauper
Supposedly it was released in 2004 and was a exclusive album that was only released in Japan at the time. "Shine" is Cyndi's 8th studio album. The album was originally going to be released from Edel Records, but the label folded, which caused some of the songs to be leaked on to the Internet. By 2002, Cyndi realized there was no point in trying to release it in a widespread fashion. The album expounds on the sound she developed with her 1996 album "Sisters Of Avalon". Mostly pop songs, it flirts with electronic while playing with old-fashioned instruments like sitars, fiddles and the sound is much lighter in mood. The songs are not lyrically linked, but each song still compliments one another really well and explores themes ranging from the Madonna-W***e Complex to celebrity life including "It's Hard To Be Me" and "Valentino".

QUICK NOTE: The EP version of the full album was released around the same time the full album was going to be released which was 2002 but thinking about it, Cyndi was the opening act for Cher and I clearly remember buying the "Shine" EP from the stands before the concert, which means the full album had to have been released in 2001 or 2002, I know that I had both versions way before "At Last" was released, but some websites say that the full version came out after "At Last" was released that's not true.

A Misstep
" Cyndi has again collaborated with Jan Pulsford, who co-wrote a majority of songs on the 1997 release "Sisters of Avalon," which had some spectacular moments and was greeted with very positive reviews. This is basically a full-length album full of average material, with the exception of three or four songs, including the spectacular "Water's Edge" and the upbeat "Shine. This time, however, only one or two of the Pulsford songs develop a hook. It is absolutely essential to Cyndi's music that it develops hooks to showcase her amazing voice, but on this album, Lauper is trapped by the material. If you really want to hear her "Shine" then check out her covers album "At Last. " Finally, if Cyndi wants a commercial comeback, it will come via dance/club remixes or guitar/acoustic pop at this stage rather than synthesized world beat. The world is open to it I think, but the songs have to match the style of what is being played today. . . either that or they have to be a no-brainer perfect hit like "Time After Time" and Cyndi Lauper hasn't a song like that in almost twenty years. As a writer, I can tell that she is perhaps trying too hard. On her acoustic CD "The Body Acoustic," this is not the case as she lets go and produces a gem of an album. Her future lies with that type of attitude. Forget the critics, please the fans.

Shine is a GEM
not one person can say what is the best, and worst, you can only give opinions! So don't talk like you know facts, because you know NOTHING. First of all, to the idiot below me, it is a matter of taste of which songs / albums are the best.

Okay, nextly, I've had access to this album since it first got illegally released on Audio Galaxy in early 2001. It is a great album, and tells a LOT of stories.

And one more thing to the idiot below me, not everyone buys music for the pleasure of pretty noises. SOME fans that are dedicated as me, like hearing stories from a great person, and Cyndi tells not only serious stories, but comical, silly, and cute. Keep your self in check buddy!.

Viva Cyndi!
This is one of her best works people! 10+ May she shine on!

Palm Springs, CA. This girl can belt them out with the best of them! "Shine" is one of the best songs I have heard of hers in years! The song, "Water's edge" will make you cry.
