GOOD COUNTRY GOSPEL
With today's technology, there isn't much excuse for putting out a 10 song CD in my opinion. The only reason I would not give this CD 5 stars is because it only has 10 songs. It would be better to wait until more songs were recorded or include some similar songs from previous releases, or adjust pricing accordingly.

Other than that, this is a strong Country Gospel recording. .


Back to Faith
Some pull it off, and some just make a mess. What an album! It's become a staple for country music artists to put up a collection of Christian songs and lump it in an album, especially in the latter parts of their careers. This one falls in the category of the former. The songs and Tracy's trademark "nasal-y" vocals combine to make for a very relevant Christian album. The biggest standaout to me is "The Book You Never Read", a unique track of the Bible being the first-person telling the story of what it is and what it has done over the course of its existence, generation upon generation.

Whether you're a fan of Country or christian music, this album will bring you back to faith. The songs are strong and they will entertain you.

I've shared it with many friends and family. This collection is fantastic. I'm alway surprised when every song on a new release is terrific, this one is more than that. I'm not a music groupy, don't purchase many CD's or follow musicians. Saw TL on FOX and was floored. Will look for TL's next one! .


Well Crafted
Tracy's vocals are amazing, his band is superb, and the selection of songs were obviously well chosen from a talented group of writers. This is an inspirational CD in every sense of the word. From the timely, UP TO HIM, to the heart-wrenching, SOMEBODY WHO WOULD DIE FOR YOU. This musical compliation compares to Tracy's body of work, in the sense that he knows how to touch people with his songs, and isn't afraid to make his OWN style of music, whether it be traditional country, or contemporary christian country.


Lawrence is Well-Grounded on "The Rock"
" These 10 cuts would not be out of place within Lawrence's prodigious canon which includes hits such as "Sticks and Stones," "Paint Me a Birmingham," "I See It Now" and "Find Out Who Your Friends Are. Prime Cuts: Dear Lord, Up to Him, Somebody Who Die for You

Firmly grounded on the bedrock of neo-traditional country, business is as usual for Lawrence on his latest release "The Rock. " Like before, Lawrence still straddles between catchy hardcore honky tonk tunes and heart stirring ballads. Except that when it comes to the lyrical content of "The Rock," they deal with issues that address God, the Bible, human relationships, and God's role in societal ills and mishaps. Nevertheless, this multiple CMA winner doesn't come across as a sanctimonious smug. Rather, mostly told within the narratives of real life struggles and personal experiences, these songs are affirming, challenging and comforting without any hint of bigotry pretension. Credit needs to go to a red carpet of Nashville's notable scribes such as Tim Johnson, Paul Nelson, Allen Shamblin, Steve Seskin, Dave Berg and fellow artist Craig Morgan for their stellar opuses.

As many of us have dreamt of writing God a letter addressing our deepest wants and frustrations, Lawrence pours out his heart on the extremely moving mid-tempo "Dear Lord. " Teaming with old friend Flip Anderson (who also wrote Lawrence's hit "I See It Now"), "Dear Lord" is the only song co-written y Lawrence himself. More heart rendering moments are in stall with the Steve Seskin/Allen Shamblin ballad "I'm Done. " After a lifetime of hurts and mistrusts, here the protagonist hands his rein on life to God when he confesses: "I'm done pointing fingers to everyone else/I'm taking a long hard look at myself/ A new day has begun, I'm done. " Lawrence further expresses his devotion of quiet trust in the Lord with "Every Prayer," a track written by Michael Dulaney and Greg Johnson.

In our dismal economic times, lead single "Up to Him" ought to draw a connection with Middle America as it ties together our need to trust God as well as work hard culminating in the song's memorable line: "I'm gonna work like it's all up to me and pray like it's all up to him. " Sounding very much like a hyped up Randy Travis, Lawrence does go to church stirring some Pentecostal fires with the bluesy "Jesus Come Talk to Your Children. " A song that calls upon Jesus to address the ills of our world including war and violence gets a little repetitive at times. Nevertheless, not all the songs address just God, Lawrence does address human relationships too. "I Know Where Heaven Is" is a pleasant (if not a little ordinary) rocker that celebrates the joys of domestic bliss. Much better is the piano based "Somebody Who Die For You," a moving ballad about sacrificial love through well-told narrative vignettes drawn from real life. If released as a single, this will do for Lawrence what "Three Wooden Crosses" did for Randy Travis.

In sum, this is a meaty album. It is one that exegetes for us, through carefully crafted stories and events, the gravity of a life lived in accordance to God's reign. And the beauty of such a life is made even more glorious through Lawrence sensitive delivery. Grounded on solid lyrics over catchy tunes, Lawrence has built his career well on "The Rock. "
