remix
i'd heard them on college radio and thought they were fantastic. the last two songs are the reason i bought this CD. i've never heard le tigre before; i respect kathleen hanna, but as a thirtyish guy the riot grrl thing didn't feel like it would be my thing, so i never bothered checking them out.

these two songs made me eager to get this CD. really silly and playful but with a cool edge. the DFA remix has a great balance of her voice--which is so over the top, shouting like a teenage girl at the edge of her voice, with lyrics that are half angry and half silly--with this goofy but groovy disco music that like most DFA stuff is just fun. much finer's the same though not a dance song: pretty laid back, sense of humor, playful, with an edge. this tension really got me and made me think i'd missed something in ignoring the band. ordered the CD and couldn't wait to hear the rest of it.

unfortunately i see why the CD's getting negative reviews; the other songs are pretty mediocre. I don't know what le tigre sounds like normally, even, but these first four songs really *are* generic discoey music, as someone else said. in these first four songs there's no tension, instead of it seeming that two sides balance each other, instead it feels like they cancel out. these songs are either not at all funny or not particularly funny, the edge has no edge, and the dance music doesn't make you want to dance.

it's worth owning perhaps for the last two songs. personally, not knowing le tigre, i'd be interested if they usually run in this vein, or if they start following in that vein from here on out, because it's really genius. maybe the remixers on the first few songs here just didn't get it, or preserve it.

Makes me sick
Too bad I can't give it zero stars. What the %#&k! That is all i can say. Horrible just horrible. Bitchin songs are ruined by this CD.

Excellent
Very catchy beats that are easy to dance to. The remixes are great. I hope Le Tigre continues on in this direction.

Why?
Some of these remixes are just horribly standard clubby techno versions of their respective songs ("Tres Bien", "Deceptecon"). No, I really don't think too many Le Tigre fans will be into this whole record. There are a couple of standouts, like the new spin on "Much Finer", or the reworked "Dyke March 2001". But the rest of these remixes, each by different djs, are danceable but don't really seem to warrent actually getting released by Mr. Lady.

A must have for Le Tigre fans
This is awesome. . . anyone who likes Le Tigre will be impressed. It takes on a totally electronc side of the band. Tracks 5 and 6 are particularly good. The remix of "Deceptacon" is pure disco. WoW!.
