Customer Reviews At Least Three Listings For This Same CD It's a 1986 MCA CD release of an earlier vinyl LP with 12 tracks, excellent AAD sound quality, and a brief message from Brenda Lee in the insert, which also contains a re-listing of the tracks showing the year recorded and the label concerned, with a few showing the name of the producer. This particular CD is shown in three different listings, each with a different price tag, and each seems to be the same product. Some were huge hits on the singles charts while others are obscure cuts, but all are sure to be played every year when Christmas rolls around, whether at home or in the car. The tracks, and their chart performances where applicable, are: 1) Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee (recorded and first released by Decca in 1958, this finally charted in 1960 at # 14 and became a perennial hit thereafter, whether on the Pop, Billboard Christmas, Adult Contemporary or Country charts; 2) Run Rudolph Run - Chuck Berry (# 69 Billboard Pop Hot 100 in 1958); 3) Hey Santa Claus - The Moonglows (the flip of Lonely Christmas - track 11 - and released in 1953 on both Mello and Chance - did not chart); 4) Merry, Merry Christmas Baby - Dodie Stevens with the Billy Vaughn Orchestra (released in 1960 on Dot - same tune as Happy, Happy Birthday Baby by The Tuneweavers in 1957 - did not chart); 5) Surfin' Santa - Lord Douglas Byron (released on Dot in 1964 - did not chart); 6) Love For Christmas - The Gems (released on Chess in 1964 - did not chart); 7) Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms with The Anita Kerr Singers (# 6 Billboard Pop Top 100/# 13 Country in 1957 on Decca - and an annual hit thereafter on the Hot 100/Billboard Christmas/Adult Contemporary and/or Country charts); 8) Mambo Santa Mambo - The Enchanters (did not chart when released in 1957 on Coral for the group later known as Garnet Mimms & The Enchanters); 9) I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Claus - Brenda Lee (recorded when she was 12 and, billed to "Little Brenda Lee" it did not chart in 1956 on Decca b/w Christy Christmas); 10) Merry Christmas Baby - Chuck Berry (# 71 Hot 100 flip of Run Rudolph Run in 1958); 11) Lonely Christmas - The Moonglows (the uncharted A-side of track 3); 12) A Surfer's Christmas List - The Surfaris (did not chart in 1963 on Decca).
Christmas of a different era Naw, maybe it won't stir up too many memories with unforgettable songs, but it does give you the Christmas spirit as felt by teenagers of the late 50's & early 60's. It sure wasn't a spiritual or religious spirit. You'll notice that here. But the CD is an accurate representation of the times, and definitely an adequate one.
