Customer Review Some good guitar music in a short release There are ten songs here, six of which have been released before. It's hard to tell what Wine, Woman & Waltz is. Three of those six have been rerecorded. So I'm guessing that Legg used this as an excuse to rework some tunes that he felt were not quite up to par. Of the four songs left, the album starts and finishes previously unreleased tune called St. Mary's. Track one is in the Nashville tuning and track ten is played on a 12 string guitar. The song is a nice mood setter and may take a few listens to get into because it sounds more like something you would hear in a gothic cathedral than Legg's usual country-folk stylings. Track 2 is Silent Night. Unlike the joke version on High Strung Tall Tales, this one is more serious. It's solo guitar and in waltz time. Although Christmas hymns are rather cliche, this one seems to fit Legg's style well. Track 5 is my favorite: Queenie's Waltz. It's the shortest tune on the album, but is a great melody and some superb bass notes that atonaly match the melody. This CD is worth the purchase for Queenie's Waltz. Mrs. Crowe's Blue Waltz, Waltzin' with Jesus, and Norah Handley's Waltz are all the same versions from the albums they came from. The Laird is the second half of the song The Netsman and the Laird from Guitar for Mortals (the waltz section, as you might have guessed). Although it is rerecorded, it sounds very much like the original. The rerecorded version of Tune for Derrol and Divorcee's Waltz, both from Guitars and Other Cathedrals, are better than the originals. Where Adrian was trying to find his footing with that first album from 1990, these new versions are much more refined and pleasant to listen to. Although most releases by Adrian Legg clock in around 50 minutes or so, this one is 39 minutes long. And if I had seen what the track listing was after I became familiar with his songs, I would not have gotten this. I'm glad that I got it. The mood becomes rather somber from track to track (no Brooklyn Blossom here!), but the music is very good.
