A must-have for "Mind Games"
Yes, it's worth having for the album art. Yes, there are more complete collections. But here's my main reason for recommending "Shaved Fish": it contains the original mix of the song "Mind Games. " The remixed reissue of the "Mind Games" album is a travesty, especially the title track, which has had all the majesty sucked out of it. If you want to hear the original, enthralling "Mind Games" track, get "Shaved Fish. ".

A balanced, level overview
And one of the best lyricists ever, up there with Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. John is my favorite Beatle. But I'm not exactly in love with his solo albums - other than Plastic Ono Band, one of the absolute classics. I do love several of his non-POB solo tunes though: Cold Turkey, Imagine, Instant Karma, Give Peace a Chance (sadly presented in a bizarre edit), Happy Christmas (War is Over), Whatever Gets You Thru the Night, Mind Games and #9 Dream are all on the list, and conveniently all found on this album. It's a very balanced disc, as I said in my title: they pull one song from each of Lennon's albums released at the time (this means nothing from Double Fantasy or Milk and Honey), with the exceptions of the three avant-garde albums; Rock and Roll (which isn't all that good in the first place); and Walls and Bridges, a widely. . . not reviled, per se, but not very respected album. Oddly enough, they pull two songs from it. Two GOOD songs, though. #9 Dream and Whatever Gets You Thru the Night, to be specific. However, we are missing some total Lennon classics, most notably my favorite Lennon song in the history of history: Jealous Guy. I'm not kidding when I say that it's moved me to tears on some occasion. My second-favorite Lennon song, the bitter Working Class Hero, is also missing. Actually I think half of POB could've been on here (God; Love; Isolation and I Found Out would've also been welcome). Other than the lack of those, and the inclusion of the frankly insulting Power to the People, this is good stuff. There are more comprehensive Lennon packages than this (i. e. Lennon Legend), but if you see it cheap, grab it. Because it's good.

Rest In Peace John We still miss you
This CS . . . Is a very good Disc of some of Johns best tunes. after the beatle Breakup. Mind Games, Imagine, Mother all his heavy hitter are here
well worth any collection.

Lennon Fan!
. This is a really good album, not my total favorite of Lennon's but it is good.

Lennons own greatest hits
That much is a given. John Lennon was a genius. With the beatles he helped craft the seminal sound of a generation. Their career has been constantly repackaged into greatest hits collections. However, this greatest hits collection is Lennon's own selection of his solo hits. The gem of this collection is the non-album single Instant Karma, which some of the less educated may know as Shine On. Lennon's other selected hits include the classic Imagine, the cathartic Mother and my favorite Christmas song of all time Happy Xmas(War is Over). Bottom line is, if your a Beatles/Lennon fan, please buy this disc.
