Nifty Album While I understand why some might find the sound quality, or the lack thereof, to be bothersome, I find that it tends to put you there live in the room. I actually like this set better than "Waiting for Columbus". I especially enjoy the treatment on "Easy to Slip -> I Know You Rider".
I do not consider myself a rabid Feat fan and would suggest that this album, along with "Columbus", lends a collection a good "before and after" representation.
where was the recording engineer?
That said this an extremely dissapointing album. I really hate to have to write this, because to me Little Feat, bar none, is the finest rock band to walk the earth. Though I must say I haven't been able to get thru it all (it possibly gets better towards the end, but I doubt it). All my bitchin' is not pointed toward the band, as usual they're at there best. My complaint is the sound, it SUCKS. I know I am spoiled by Waiting for Columbus. But this sounds as if they are using a boot-leg master. The vocals seem to not even be in the same building as the rest of the concert. With technology what it is today there is no excuse for this. A Little Feat accoustic concert should have been "da bomb" as the kids say. We Feat fans deserve better.
good musicanship but....
Even the Craig Fuller era feat were close but only as he sounded so much like Lowell. can't agree with other reviewers ,these songs just don't work as well with anybody other than Lowell singing them ,the band is just as good as ever but there's something missing . Not a patch on "Waiting for Columbus" their fantastic live album from 1978 . Also have to criticize the sound quality ,rather thin and lacking real prescence, seems everybody these days likes to put a pickup on their accoustic guitars which does not give you the natural accoustic sound. Every group has to call it a day eventually.
I hate to, but
But this record just doesn't work for me. I bought this on the strength of the band, and yes they are great musicians all. Shawn's voice sounds a little to pushed, the keyboard solo's seem to wander and what makes the guitar sounds so great electric, just isn't there for me. I mean no disrespect to the band, but I just can't get into this record. In some ways I agree with the much maligned evolu10484. The new feat is great in ways that the old feat were not, and vice versa. I have Waiting for Columbus in my player now.
Live acoustic Feat are not to be missed!
These 7 performers are all at the top of their games and they're working from the best damned song book around. This 2 disc set of acoustic Little Feat just cooks from beginning to end. This set of discs has been in heavy rotation since i got them. Everytime I listen, I'm more impressed.
Don't miss this release!.
