The songs have a variety of musical styles, and include an adult vocal chorus, kids vocal chorus, and a small brass section.
The musicianship is first rate and similar to that found in the other Disney recordings of children's music, for example, the Disney compilation of "Silly Songs. The recording is from 1992. " This Disney series of recordings is a National Treasure, in my opinion, as it provides definitive versions of many traditional popular kids songs. Some of the songs in this Little Richard album are heartwarming, for example, where toddlers speak a few words in their typical adorable baby voices. Little Richard is in fine form throughout. You should not be worried about his act being any less energetic or coherent than it was during the 1950s. Although the recording contains electric bass and synthesizers, there is real brass music here, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. (I would have preferred acoustic bass to electric bass. ) The disc includes a ten page booklet disclosing all of the lyrics, including all of the knock-knock jokes found in the song, Keep A Knockin'.

Hokey Pokey has plenty of tinkling piano notes, brass, and adult singing chorus, and occasional whooping by Little Richard. Of course, almost every baby boomer in America knows that Paul McCartney of the Beatles derived his whoop ("oooooo") from Little Richard.

On Top of Spaghetti is slow with voices in the background.

Old MacDonald is energetic with an abundance of tinkling piano notes and plenty of brass. There are honking duck sounds, mooing, dog barks, and cockle-a-doodle do from a rooster. Towards the end, all the animals join in together.

She'll Be Comin' Around the Mountain is done in the Cajun style, with plenty of accordion. At one point, Little Richard whoops and laughs.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is done fairly straight, without embellishment.

Keep A Knockin' is energetic and creative. There are plenty of little kids' voices. At four points during the song, the singing comes to a pause, and there is a knock-knock joke. For example, a kid says, knock, knock. Little Richard responds who's there. The kid says pencil. Little Richard says, pencil who? Then the kid answers, pants `ill fall down if you don't wear a belt. Then the song resumes.

If You're Happy and You Know It has a synthopop percussion sound as the background music.

When the Saints Go Marching In has piano, brass, and synthesizer percussion.

He's Got the Whole World in His Hands has tinkling piano, lots of brass, and a backing vocal chorus.

Here We Go Loopty-Loo has synthesizer percussion, a chorus of little kids singing, and Jamaican oil can drumming.

Oh Where Has My Little Dog gone is a slow number, sounding like a lounge act with lush synthesizer music, providing a "wash" of sound.

I prefer the songs done in the traditional musical style, that is, Hokey Pokey, Keep A Knockin', and Old MacDonald, and less prefer the songs with synthesizers.

Rockin'
Everything else is just a bonus. This CD is worth buying for its version of the Hokey Pokey alone. Kids love it. Great to use with adults as well. Fun, fun, fun. I've owned it on cassette tape for years, and am finally upgrading. Getting a copy for my sister as well.


great to get the little ones moving!
It was a real favorite! Now, my two year old son loves it as well. I used to use this CD for music and movement time with my preschoolers with and without disabilities. Hokey Pokey, Old MacDonald, and You Keep Knockin' were especially preferred by both audiences!!.


Great for kids; okay for adults.
/WEA in '86]. This album was a great surprise for Little Richard fans back in '92: since '79 there had been just one album of new recordings by the Quasar ["Lifetime Friend" for Warner Bros. The packaging loked fine and the song selection pertinent. What was missing on every track was a truly committed, strong vocal - since his mid to late '80s "Comeback" his voice has not always been dependable, and unfortunately on this session he didn't have it. In addition, the mix is very light, obviously with small children in mind. For example, "Keep a Knockin'", a nice arrangement featuring children's voices, lacks the kind of power the "older kid" wants. Probably the best tracks for all listeners are "Hokey Pokey", with its driving piano, and "Old MacDonald", a near-classic. My-my-my-my!.


Kids will be "Shakin those shoes n Chasin those blues"
Have an only child, a lonely child? a bored child, a sad child, a happy child, a creative child, an out going child, or have a child in you? This is the music of all music to introduce or refresh the musical ambiance in your familys life. OH Golly! Your children will be shaking their shoes, Losing their blues and turning those frowns into smiles again. Need to inject the children with a phonagraph needle to liven things up a bit. This is the way to go. One of my all time favorites. From my two year old to my teenager and everyone in between This is the appetizer, main meal and desert all rolled up into one. Have fun with this , because there is just no way to avoid it.
