A labor of love from the Lobos
I love the slight rock feel they have even as they precisely hit the rhythms of the traditional songs - a little of that laid back groove the Lobos always have. This wonderful album sounds to me as though they made it just for the joy of it. The versions of some great original tunes are also enjoyable, although Steve Berlin's sax sounds a little strident on "Maricela" here. .

Great CD
I purchased this CD at the concert, primarily as a medium for autographs, after the concert. My youngest son and I attended a Los Lobos concert at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, April 30, 2008. It turns out to be one of my favorite Los Lobos CDs. They played many of the songs on this CD at the concert, many mostly acoustically. A warm and wonderful sound. The song "Teresa" is among my favorite Los Lobos recordings, and their version of Gunatanamera is by far the best I've heard. Probably my favorite track, after Teresa, is Maricela, on this CD more lively and immediately personal than versions on other CDs. The more instrumentally spare, but warmer versions of "Two Janes" and "Saint Behind the Glass" on this CD are great, as well. I've played this CD about 4 times as much as any other Los Lobos CD, since the concert. Everything Los Lobos does is excellent.

Mixed feelings
The first 3 songs
are absolutely fantastic with that wonderful "jarocho" like guitar
pickin' which they do even better than traditional Mexican groups and
which they repeat with "La Guacamaya" and "La Pistola y el Corazón". This is the third Los Lobos CD I purchase sung in Spanish and composed
of the music they are so brilliant in: traditional Mexican folk music!
Their "Del Este de Los Angeles" was the first all Spanish debut and
is still the best one by far, then we had "La Pistola y El Corazón"
also classified with 5 stars although being "too short" (only 9 songs,
and now this third one called "Acoustic en Vivo".
This certainly would have been another 5 star CD but they suddenly
commit a mistake, to my opinion, by singing another 3 typical traditional
Mexican songs. . . . in English! Even if you're not familiar with this music,
singing Mexican songs in English hurts the hearing. You immediatley
notice something's wrong. Can you imagine a typical blues, country or
American folk song in another language? Horrifying ain't it? Well
that's the case here: totally out of place. Unfortunately the reason
why, for the first time, I can't give a Los Lobos CD 5 stars. Besides
that, the presentation is inexistant. Just a black paper inside with
no information! Who are the songwriters? When were these songs recorded?
A real pity. .

A Favorite
I saw Los Lobos earlier this year(07)in Baltimore. This is an accoustic live album. This album reminds me of that concert in both style and content. Lots of hispanic accoustic instruments in a traditional Mexican style. So this is a bit different than their more rock based albums. Most songs are in Espanol. An excellent CD begining to end.
