Met them on an airplane.
I used to listen to it over and over throughout the early 80's. This was one of the first albums (although I bought it on cassette tape) that I ever purchased. Roundabout 1995 I was on a flight from Vancouver to Chicago and the band was on the plane sitting all around me. They were nice guys. I told them I was a fan and grew up listening to their music. They were impressed I could name every song in order on this album. Nice guys, good music, great memories.

New Wavey Lover Boys
As a child I had this tape and the follow up "Get Lucky" and for some reason it was always the second album I played more, because of its more rock sound but having matured and buying both releases on CD, I find myself gravitating to the debut so much more often. I love me my Mike Reno of 1980 and that was the year the whole band Loverboy burst onto the scene and burst out of those leather pants with this debut album.

It's much more new wave rock than one would think of when they think of Loverboy and songs like "Lovin' Every Minute Of It" but this is truly a new wave melodic album with the hit singles "Turn Me Loose" and "The Kid Is Hot Tonite", it contains some of the best album tracks of the 80s.

Dated, but who cares
amazon. Watch Video Here: http://www. amazon. com/review/R2MARYZ2KS5NYN I think the first song I ever heard by Loverboy was Lady of the 80's, and it's really kind of weird to remember how the expression "the 80's" sounded so up-to-date at the time and gradually got more tarnished and shabby. I've been aware of that song becoming dated for 27 years now. But I don't care. The only song that's dated in a bad way is 'Prissy Prissy', which I didn't care for at the time. Sounds more like something Sweet (Desolation Boulevard) would crank out.

Funny story - maybe - I got tickets to a Sweet concert because I thought they were Kiss (Kiss). I had seen Kiss on TV briefly only once and I liked the Kabuki stuff, but I got the name mixed up. The Sweet concert wasn't bad, and as it turns out, I didn't like Kiss at all - with probably some exceptions I don't remember. Apparently that was in 1974, which sounds about right. I think I expected Kiss to be something like Queen (A Night at the Opera) who I apparently could not have know about yet - with makeup. But after awhile, sadly, Queen didn't even sound like Queen (Jazz).

Stands Out Compared to Others from 1980
These guys somehow bridged a lot of different forms of music into their own unique sound. Take a look at the music that was out in 1980. You can hear influences from the past (late 70's) but you can also hear a lot of what became the standard sound throughout the 80's. Like other reviewers, "Turn Me Loose" is my favorite here. The bass line, the pace, the lyrics, and the vocals are all fantastic. The amazing thing is that Mike Reno can still belt out a song. Search youtube and you'll see some recent live performances. He still hits the high notes. While checking out this album, take a listen to their new one, "Just Getting Started". It will surprise you in a good way. .

Great Debut
It is a good album that has a lot of hooks and rocks with the best of them. This album introduced the world to Loverboy. This is one of those albums that will get you pumped up for any occasion. Wish new groups could get me pumped like this but they just don't write like this anymore.
