major comeback - Loverboy's best since the mid 80's
They broke up in the late '80's, and I never heard of them again until about 2 years ago, finding them on myspace. I have been a fan of this band when they first hit it big, back in '82. I was surprised to learn that they had been re-united for several years and had released new material. . . "Just Getting Started".

finally, a few weeks ago, I was curious and just had to hear their new songs. To say I was pleasantly surprised is a major understatement- time has not diminished Mike Reno's great vocals, Paul Dean's signature rock guitar sound (nobody plays the guitar like him), Matt's steady drumming, and Doug's keyboards which lace through each song. It is like they picked up where they left off after 1983's "Keep It Up". {Admittedly I was disappointed with their albums after that}

They are plenty of rock-pop songs, some slower songs. . . there is a song to fit whatever mood you might be in. If you are a long-time Loverboy fan you won't be disappointed; but even if you've never heard their early 80's music, you will like this music, especially if you dislike today's rap and bubblegum music (as I do). This is real rock music with guitars, power hooks, and great vocals.

I was also surprised by the maturity and content of the lyrics- the lyrics tackle some intense emotions and situations.

** recommend for all, and highly recommended for Loverboy fans. . most of all there is ENERGY from start to finish on this cd.

Great Album!!!
Only one track I dont care for much. Many "retro" bands put out fairly lame "recent" work, but this album is great! Very listenable from end to end. I find myself popping the disk in often while driving.

Pleasantly surprised
Loverboy's been a favorite of mine for more years than they or I care to admit to. After somewhat of a hiatus from rock and roll, a VH1 retrospective got me back in the mood. So I listened on line to a couple of cuts from this one, then made the purchase. I was pleased to find it's a pretty strong product. Some catchy tunes, great hooks, a lot of fire left in the guys. Seems to be very much a Mike Reno record, and I was a little sorry to hear less keyboard and far less prominent percussion in the mix, but the guitars are hot. I can only say about the songwriting that the principal writer must have been through some interesting times in recent years. Anyway, this one plays among the recent batch I listen to on my morning commute. Thanks for keeping the music coming, Loverboy.

Mike Reno's gem
There is not a bad track to be found here. If you are a fan of Loverboy or melodic rock, this is simply the best record I've bought in many years.

High hopes...
The problem is too many ballads and not enough rockers. As a long-time fan, I had high hopes for this new release. Tracks 1, 3, 5 are quite good. As far as the the old sound being there, it is to a degree. Mike Reno's vocals are a bit laid back and he doesn't seem to have the intensity he once did. After a 10 year break, this could have been a far better effort had the emphasis been a more hard rock approach. CBS needs to do a proper remastering of their first two releases and maybe release a live dvd. The booklet only contains the lyrics for the first track for some strange reason. Sound quality is very good. 10 tracks 37. 14.
