Good intro to Skynrd It's a good intro to the band and has several of their big hits. This is a fun party album, though not comprehensive.
Lynyrd Skynard Gold and Platinum
It is a double CD set; however, it doesn't have all of the songs on it such as Curtis Lowe and a lot of their live songs. I have bought previous recordings of Lynyrd Skynyrd and this is the one that has been the best out of any of their other albums. Mostly, this is one that has their original recordings and has the long Free Bird song that starts off with "What is it you want to hear?" and the entire crowd yells "Free Bird" and who can listen to Free Bird without the bird that tweets in the beginning? And, Amazon was the only place I could find this particular CD after searching through a lot of other stores that are located in the Heart of Dixie and that's saying quite a bit. .
2 stars
there was supose to be two cds i the set. i am very unhappy with my product. there was only one.
Not Skynyrd's best...
Given the basic premise (a collection of their most successful releases), the album is solid. I'm not sure why this album is a double-disc (probably because of the 14-minute version of Free Bird), but it only has eight tracks on each disc. However, several of their better, less-known songs like "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe" are excluded. The highlight of the album is "Simple Man," which I consider to be their best song.
If you're looking for the best Lynyrd Skynyrd greatest hits album (from among the dozens that have been released over the years), keep looking. But if you just want a solid collection of some of their most famous work, this album does the job.
Best of the Best
Oh my did they ever overachieve. All they wanted to be was the Allman Brothers Band. If you have any doubt about the greatness of this band just play this CD.
They were underappreciated and probably still are. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are you listening? Ronnie is one of the all time best and we won't see his like anytime soon.
There is not a bad track and I will go out on a limb and say that Sweet Home Alabama is the weakest song on the CD. .
