nothing but their best--and some special bonus numbers, too Lynyrd Skynyrd had a sound that just couldn't be beat and they always rocked! The quality of the sound on these two CDs is excellent and I like that artwork, too. The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd gives us two CDs both full of excellent music by Lynyrd Skynyrd; and they never disappoint! I'm surprised that such a strong two CD set is currently out of print; but hopefully that will change soon with continued sales of this CD set.
The classic "Sweet Home Alabama" starts the first CD off with one of their best known numbers; this tune was their reply to Neil Young's beliefs but it remains good music even in our times. Lynyrd Skynyrd uses the guitars to perfection and they sing this very well--what a dynamic tune that is yet so easy on the ear! I love it. "Was I Right Or Wrong" gets a careful treatment; and the band really takes off with their excellent "Gimme Three Steps. " "Gimme Three Steps" has these guys rockin' at their very best and it leaves nothing to be desired--this is all THAT good! I also like the way Lynyrd Skynyrd rocks so hard and yet they manage to make the words really rather easy to hear--now that's the hallmark of a fine group of musicians!
"Workin' For MCA" continues the rocking music; and listen for the outstanding "Swamp Music. " I really like the sound of "Swamp Music;" it's a major highlight of the first CD and just one listen will tell you why. "Saturday Night Special" is equally impressive; they sure do this one to perfection--and beyond! "Mr. Banker" has some really great guitar work that enhances the number quite a lot; and there's another gem in "Call Me The Breeze. " The first CD ends strong with Lynyrd Skynyrd performing a record album version of one of my favorites, "Free Bird;" this rocks hard and it leaves me wanting more.
Fortunately for me and the rest of us, more is what we all get! The second CD continues the hits and other memorable tunes. "What's Your Name" just plain sounds good and I could never tire of hearing these guys do this one up right! The rhythm is perfect and they sing and play this well. "Whiskey Rock-A-Roller" is a number you're sure to like if you haven't heard it before; and "Tuesdays Gone" really has that southern country flavor to it that is easy on the ear in its own way. "I Know A Little" has the heroes rocking again with a lot of great guitar work that stuns me; "I Know A Little" gets the royal treatment indeed! "Gimme Back My Bullets" is truly classic Lynyrd Skynyrd; they never skip a beat and this tune holds its own very well.
"That Smell" has some great backup vocals to strengthen the tune--not that Lynyrd Skynyrd ever really needed to do it this way but they do sound quite good. The second CD then finishes with a live track of "Free Bird" that will amaze you! This clincher alone is well worth the price of admission just on its own, folks!
Lynyrd Skynyrd's original lineup certainly didn't stay together as long as I would have liked; but wow, how they gave us good music. The original members gave us real rock and roll with a strong southern accent that grabbed you by the throat and never let go--while you loved it--and while you still love it--and the way through! I highly recommend this for any Lynyrd Skynyrd fan; and it's even great for starters if you're just discovering the magical artistry of this band.
.
its all good
s. i'll make this quick this is probably enough l. for any but the most hardcore fans you get all the hits and some good deep cuts it all rocks and is well worth the purchase. that being said my only probelm with this set is that it doesn't include "dont ask me no questions" a song i love but it does in clude two versions of free bird. i would have liked to see them cut the 11:00 min version of free bird for the previously mentiond exclusion and maybe another live track from one more from the road like t for texas or something. but like i said this cd has most anything the casual fan could want and is well worth the buy.
Metellica vs Skynrd?
I bought Kill 'em All on vinyl the year it came out. Why are people writing about Metallica and Skynrd. . . love it. LA/Bay Area and the South are worlds apart. If you like Skynrd, then this is a great collection. If you don't, why even bother rating the product? Don't be the ignorant fool who says you either like the Beatles or the Stones. Music isn't a mutually exclusive descision. I won't say that someone who rates Appetite for Destruction and Nevermind as the worst albums ever is an idiot, but they are an idiot. .
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it !!!!
Free Bird (studio and the live version) was just awesome. I didn't think I was a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan but after listening to the CD I'm hooked.
With all the hits it has on it, it is a great CD to have.
.
One of the BEST!!!
If you like Metallica then that explains you ignorance! Then again I'm sure you can't be older than 18. This is one of the best Skynyrd cd's out there. FYI. . . a true music lover loves ALL music, you're just a little boy who likes music.
