Maanam - Lozko
Maanam Band: Maanam
Title: Lozko
Rating:
Release Date: 1996-10-07
Media: Audio CD

Tracks: 1: Sahara 2: Kochanek 3: Totalne Milczenie 4: Lózko 5: Tecza 6: Po Prostu Badz 7: Jesli Chcesz 8: Po to Jestes No Swiecie 9: Z Ogniem W Glowie 10: Mówia, Ze Milosc Mieszka W Niebie 11: Mówia, Ze Milosc Mieszka W Niebie

A little disappointing
The band made a mistake trying very hard to get close to its huge commercial and sort of artistic success - "Roza" (The Rose). A great EP "Kolekcjoner (The Collector) announced CD "Lozko" (The Bed), which unfortunately doesn't sound so complete or fresh, even if it includes several really good songs. The price they paid for it was bad reviews, malicious articles in Polish musical press and loosing a lot of fans, who had higher expectations. . . The most surprising is they never realized that. . . Musically, the album is based on standard rock'n'roll tunes and Maanam's typical catchy melodies. It's very difficult to find a key to it, especially that each song seems to be from a completely different musical region. "Tecza" (Rainbow) and "Mowia, Ze Milosc Mieszka W Niebie (Repryza)" (They Say Love Lives In Heaven (Reprise)) are the most interesting tracks from the album, although less demanding listeners can find "Lozko" as a quite entertaining record. Those who looked for sort of elegant Maanam's "indie pop" from "Kolekcjoner", may be more than disappointed. In comparison to previous releases, this album represents a lower standard. Compositions, lyrics, songs selections, cover design, promotion etc all seem to lack the momentum that Maanam is known for. The band like never before misses a proper management team to provide artistic and business leadership in a professional manner. Without serious concentration on content, "Lozko" was released prematurely in an effort to sell more records and no attempt was made to hide this fact. The result was lower sales. . . "Roza" the forerunner of "Lozko" is still the best received of Maanam's 90's productions.
