A curio for the fans This EP can perhaps be best summarised on a track by track basis. A little EP I bought on import years ago (remember those pre internet days?) and it really is just for the fans who are dedicated given the dearth of remarkable or groundbreaking material.
1) I Can't Wait - A reasonable tune with some restraint and feel but not overly awesome either. An Yngwie ballad if you know what I mean.
2) Aftermath - A heavy rocker this one that rides a pretty good riff and groove. It's not a band song with good vocals from Michael Vescera, simple chorus and an 'end of the world' lyrical bent. But not worth the price of admission alone.
3) Rising Force (live) - The Joe Lynn Turner era staple tune live at Budokan W/Michael Vescera. Not earth shattering but not woeful either - something a touch different for the long term fan.
4) Far Beyond the Sun (live) - A fairly straight early 90's live run through of this awesome instrumental number from Yngwies first album. Once again OK for fans.
5) Power and the Glory. . Takada's Theme - A new instrumental with some choral inflections. A little atmospheric and not a bad tune. But not essential either.
So there you go. A bunch of so-so tracks for the Yngwie completist. Really this was first and foremost a stop gap curio sort of release for the Japanese market and only dedicated fans need it, the more casual fan should perhaps save their cash.
Blown away!!!!!
I think I listened to it about a hundred times the first couple of days that I had it and the songs don't wear out like what you hear on the radio, you can't get tired of hearing this cd. I played this as soon as I got home thinking that this would be a typical Malmsteen record until the song "I Can't Wait", started to play and I was totally blown away!!! It is like a different side of Yngwie, like a life change, you could call it, especially in the song "Aftermath" which is a hard hitting song that speaks out, buy it, listen to it, and you will know that this cd is definately a must have.
Its a great Yngwie "all-around" short CD
To me it was well worth the cost. I also waited a long time for this CD. I happen to like Yngwie's style of ballads - you get one of his best with this CD (title track). You also get a great rock tune (Aftermath) and great instrumental (Power and Glory). If you truely are an Yngwie fan you will be satisfied with this CD.
Had potential to be great and falls short
The opening ballad isn't bad but it lacks depth and the rocker following it Aftermath does make up for the bad start. I have waited a long time to get this album and I'm left feeling somewhat let down. But the crowning point of the album is Power & Glory, probably one of his finest instrumentals ever. If the price was lower I would say buy it just for that track. It's worth it to me for that song alone.
