Fantastic, punky classic of a single, one of their best What a classic single! A fantastic return to punk for the Manics with autobiographical lyrics that Nicky Wire put all his soul into, screaming vocals from James Dean Bradfield and even quotes at the beginning and end. I liked This Is My Truth, but this was what we were really longing for. The choppy, thrashing guitar and drums make a track that is one of the Manics' very best ever, no mean feat. Fantastic stuff.
manic millenium stars
masses against the classes is in no doubt the best punk song of the year 2000 and to any body out there who thinks otherwise please feel free to e-mail me on my adress. come back twice as hard when many of theyre so called loyal fans dissmiss them as nothing more than a joke.
Not the best but of course buy
The first thing that comes to mind when listening to the title song "The Masses Againsit The Classes" is early "Motown Junk" era manics. The manics plunge into the millenium with a new single 'that has nothing to do with the new album' says bassist Nicky Wire. The track works but I felt it was a little forced and could've been a whole lot better. "Close My Eyes" is the typical whiney rock star song. I find a bit of the lyrics offensive to the fan but the music is great on the song. Finally we reach what is worth buying the single for, The Manics cover of Chuck Berry's "Rock 'N' Roll Music". James does an exellent job at translating the song musically for a new era and attitude. Overall we get a feeling of the roots of The Manics and some ponder into the future of The Manics.
The Manics Against The Classes
The Manic Street Preachers latest offering and one-off single was meant more or less as a follow up to the massive millennium gig and turned out to be much much more than just a one-off single, shooting straight into the UK charts at Number one, and becoming the Manics biggest selling single of all time, even more than their other #1, If You Tolerate This. .
The fact of the matter is that that achievement was well deserved as this single is quite possibly the freshes and best sounding song to come out of Wales yet in 2000.
Track 2, Close My Eyes, is another new and beautiful Manics track, while the third track is a cover of Chuck Berry's Rock And Roll Music.
This brilliant new Manics track can only leave us with pleasant thoughts about what the next album will bring.
