Sturm und cheese
"Fighting The World" was their first major label release and probably the one most familiar to non-fans. If Iron Maiden and KISS birthed a band, it would definitely be Manowar, the New York quartet who can't get arrested in their native land but are considered gods in Europe and South America and can pack stadiums nearly thirty years into their career. However, it's due more to the laughably bad lyrics and horrible image (it is rare that I hear their name without someone mentioning furry boots and loincloths) than to the music. In a way that's a shame, because vocalist Eric Adams is a top-notch metal singer and the musicianship is pretty solid, but it's wasted on stuff like the horrid "Blow Your Speakers," now infamous as a VH1 Awesomely Bad Video. The one bright spot is "Carry On," which "true fans" say is one of their worst songs but is probably the most accessible tune they've ever done. With a great beat and shout-along chorus, you'll be tapping your foot and throwing the horns in no time. Download that and leave the rest alone--and sample the rest of Manowar's catalog at your own risk.

A great True Metal Record
If you are not into metal, this album will NOT be for you. First off let me say one thing. If you are into metal and you not into Manowar, then you listen to nothing but FALSE METAL!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry, but it is true). This is the first Manowar release I bought, and like all of their other releases, it is excellent. Fighting the World starts off with the catchy title track. The listener first notices the slicker productions of this album. Into Glory Ride and Battle Hymn were a bit more raw, but still good. Manowar maintain their Wagnerian, over-the-top metal with this album. Next is Blow your speakers. Great upbeat track that will tell you to crank up the volume! Carry On, the bands mainstream attempt (mainstream used VERY LOOSELY) is next. I love the positive atmosphere of this album. Violence and bloodshed follows. Really heavy song that reminds me of Somewhere in Time. My 2nd favorite track Defender is next. I love the use of Orson Welles as the narrator. The atmosphere of this track. I usually have this track on repeat. The next real track is Holy War. It is the weakest track on the album, but excellent non the less (I honestly do not think Manowar have released a bad song). Finally, the grand finale--BLACK WIND FIRE AND STEEL. This is my favorite Manowar song period. The energy of this track is AMAZING. Its got everything packaged in one track--speed, energy, Wagnerian song structure and of course the amazing lungs of Eric Adams. This track alone is worth buying Fighting the World.
Manowar is one heck of a metal band. All metal heads MUST buy this album. O and one last thing. . . DEATH TO FALSE METAL!!!!!!! .

Too inconsistent for 5 stars
Blow Your Speakers is acceptable, but nothing special. This is a great album, but just too inconsistent. I could listen to it if I really wanted to but it's just not what we expect from ManOwaR. Violence and Bloodshed is ManOwaR's worst song (or Pleasure Slave). Master of Revenge is just a pointless opener to a classic.

On the other hand, The title track is a great song, maybe a little too far into the way of glam, but I still like it. Carry On is just a good song. Defender has Orson Welles, one of the most legendary men ever. Holy War is a great ballad, and Black Wind, Fire and Steel is the song I don't even need to talk about.

Fighting the World: 4/5 Classic, a bit overrated but regardless a great song.

Blow Your Speakers: 3/5 Slightly on the cheesy side, but the cheese didn't annoy me too much.

Carry On: Don't really listen to this, haven't got into this yet but it's pretty solid. 4/5

Violence and Bloodshed: What the ****? Is this Manowar or Limp Bizkit? 1/5

Defender: The second and the last track to be recorded with Orson Welles. Legendary. 5/5

Drums of Doom: Not a song, but a great way to open up into Holy War. Since it's not a song, I can't rate it.

Holy War: My 2nd favourite track. Easily mistakeable for a ballad at first, but it gets heavier. 6/5

Master of Revenge: Pointless opener. A waste of listening time. Not a song so I won't rate.

Black Wind, Fire and Steel: CLASSIC! Born of Black Wind, Fire and Steel! 7/5

Unfortunately, due to Violence and Bloodshed and Master of Revenge I had to give this less. Blow Your Speakers also helped decrease the average, but I thought it was acceptable.

Also, tracks 1-3 head in the commercial direction and could have been better. Violence and Bloodshed is just awful speed. Its hardly better than Limp Bizkit.
