Another shift in direction
Leaving behind the psychotic racket of "Six" this finds the group sounding more like Wide Open Space than Being a Girl. I Can Only Dissapoint You, the first single off "Little Kix" is yet again another change of direction. Paul Draper's singing has never been this good, he hits some wonderful high notes throughout. The lyrics are typically Mansun, revelling in misery, "I Can Only Dissapoint You/Cos I always Let You Down/Always. " Overall the song has a tragic, romantic quality to it which is definitley uncharacteristic for Mansun. The romantic/soulful angle is explored fully on "Little Kix. "

Although this cannot be called Mansun by the numbers there is a familiar feeling to it which is perhaps one of its strengths. The B-sides are all typically good, "My Idea of Fun" is a particular highlight. Chad's first writing effort "Golden Stone" is also damned good.

While ICODY is perhaps not as good a single as "Electric Man" (a guaranteed future release) it is still far superior to everything in the indie scene at the moment. Certainly one of the best of this year.
