Good Album But Not Great99 brand new at a local music store. First off, I bought my copy for $22. At the time I'm writing this review Amazon is asking $63. 99 for the set. That's insane, I would have never paid that much. Included in this limited edition box set is the album, the hearse cd single, which only includes one other track (phantasm), a live dvd, and a thin paper photo.
The photo is nothing special, just a piece of paper with two band members pointing shotguns at the camera. Oh ya, it says Marduk on it. The cd single is just that, a cd single, nothing spectacular. The live dvd is a typical Marduk bonus live dvd. It's mixed in 2. 0, I prefer a 5. 1 mix myself. The dvd is not professionally done, which is no big deal. I like watching raw and gritty dvd's of shows. My biggest gripe is the sound mix. Now for the album. World Funeral falls short in my opinion. The mix is really clean and polished. At times the songs are too melodic, and the vocals fall in line. World Funeral seems to lack the intensity of other Marduk albums, it's not nearly as raw sounding as Rom 5:12. If you've never heard Marduk, this is not a good place to start. I'd start with La Grande Danse Macabre or Rom 5:12. Just my opinion though.
Bottom Line: If you're a fan of this album or Marduk for that matter, and you find this set for a reasonable price, it's worth picking up. If for no other reason than the fact that it's so limited.
