Rastaman live up!
It is also the gospel music of the Rastafari religion, founded by Marcus Garvey. Reggae is angry protest music from the ghetto. Funny it is also the sound of sun, surf and sea.

This album, released posthumously in 1983, two years after Bob Marley's passing has an uplifting beat and interesting lyrics, from the 1983 smash Buffalo Soldier to the fast rythymmed `Mix up, Mix Up', the story of the Jamaican ghetto `Trench Town', the Rastafarian hymn ` Give Thanks and Praise', Marley's satirical piece hitting back at his critics ` Stiff Necked Fools' and the bouncy and inspiring `Rastaman Live Up'

This is uplifting and rhythmic stuff, which eases into your body, making you sway to the beat. It is a very good first Marley's album to get, and one of his lighter catchier works.
Note the reference of Rasta religious wordings to Israel and Zion, and the enmity against Rome and Babylon.

this is Bumping
anyway I truly forgot how much I dig this Album. going through My Cd collection&I gots alot&I was like I ain't Bumped this Set in so long. My Main cut aside from "Buffalo soilder" is "I Know". dig that vibe&Groove. "stiff Necked fools" is also on point. you can always feel what Bob Marley was Getting at. He is one of the Greatest Musical Talents Ever. a story-Telling Genius who truly Uplifts You&Makes Music that warms your Soul.

Bob gone. Spirit still strong
It is also one of the best of these later albums. This is simply the first of many posthumous collections of Bobs music. Maybe that's not so surprising since many of the songs that were compiled here by Island Music were from some of the more creative and productive recording sessions of the Wailers. A lot of the songs are from 1978-79 and are out-takes, and unused recordings from sessions that produced Survival and Uprising. Bob had always intended to produce an album entitled Confrontation to complete a trilogy of these albums. Whether Confrontation emerged as he had envisaged, we will never know. Doesn't matter now and the end result is good music anyway. 'Blackman redemption' and 'Rastaman Live up' were singles that had been released previously in Jamaica. Redone here. The big hit was 'Buffalo Soldier' but 'Chant Down Babylon', 'Jump Nyabinghi','Mix up Mix up', 'Blackman Redemption' and 'Rastaman Live up' are all very worthwhile tracks. The whole album has a light, optimistic sound and emphasizes Bob's spiritual beliefs and faith in Ras Tafari, these six songs saying it best. There are a couple of very interesting and unique things here also. I don't know of any other Marley tune with profanity in the lyrics, but listen good to the verse on 'Mix up Mix up' where Bob sings 'I still remain, I know I still, I will'. The next lines go 'But through your fu. . . . . respect/And through your false pride/Someone wanna take Jah children for a ride' The other unique item is an entire song - 'I know'. No other Marley song, before or since ever sounded like this. The instrumental arrangement, keyboards, vocal harmonies and percussion are all pure R&B. You recognize reggae only through references to Jah. Different all right and and shows the versatility of the man.

very good
A shame these tracks weren't released during Bob's life (they surely would have), as they are among the best he composed lyrically. This cd, released after Marley's passing, showcases Bob's social conscious very nicely, with standout tracks like "Buffalo Soldier" riviting.

A fantastic lp filled with great nuggets, well wroth getting.

Wonderful!!!!
ANYONE WHO LOVES MR. THIS IS BOB'S BEST ALBUM. MARLEY WILL LOVE THIS ALBUM! IT'S WONDERFUL. SOME OF BOBS MOST ENTHRALING LYRICS. YOU CAN JUST FALL BACK INTO HIS VOICE AND FEEL HIM. I LOVE IT!.
