Terrible
After hearing the single and opening track I knew it would be an album that would divide a lot of their fans. I know alot of fans will want to right off this review and ignore this opinion, but this album is absoulutely awful. Whatever you may think about Amputechture, it is a lot better than this. Everyone seems to love Deloused and to either love or hate Frances and Amputechture, but I don't see how anyone can enjoy this. The Mars Volta is already noisy enough and this cd is all over the place and out of control. You may like that, but I don't see how it's enjoyable. I enjoy prog, but to me this is just muddled noise, and I like loud music, but I also like to hear everything. I think Amputechture was a step in the right direction, minus the vocals.

I might as well talk about the vocals. . . their really bad. They are loaded up with effects and he now sings in a high pitched chipmunk voice. I hate to be like this but seriously how about Cedric actually sings some high notes without computerized effects? If you can't do that, then don't, because it doesn't sound good, and it doesn't showcase your talent. The guitar is good, but not as good as it was on past albums, sometimes simple is better. The drumming is really bad too, I'm suprised more people aren't talking about it. And what else is their to say? The songs are just awful, some alot worse than others. They really need to work on their songwriting. Aberinkula isn't interesting, Agadez is painful to listen to, Conjugal Burns is one of their worst songs ever. The only decent songs are Goliath and Soothsayer, and their completely pretentious. This band was once really good but not after this garbage. .


the Mars Volta - the Bedlam in Goliath (USB)

I guess I was expecting wav or cda. Well, at first I was disappointed that it was only MP3 format. To it's credit the MP3
is 320 Kbps, so it's the best it could be in MP3.
Mars Volta is an amazing band and this is another amazing album.
Smokin hot(Goliath is nutz) The USB ouija board is a cool idea.
If you know the band, this plays into their "mythology".
Inside is the album and a video. Also, there's some interactive stuff
that takes you to a Volta website with info and updates and swag to buy.
I got this not only because it can later be a very cool USB (1 Gb)
device but it's only going to increase in value because there were
a limited amount made. It's hard to find now, so snatch one up if
you find one.


Mars Volta's best yet
. The Bedlam in Goliath is a must own for anyone who likes The Mars Volta, or anything else that Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has done.


Among the best in 2008
The kind of music that cannot put u at ease.
Its complex as usual. Its like u having a heavy dose of LSD in a hot day. Im just kidding. But thats near the experience u gonna had when u listen to this or any Mars Volta album.


Ok, but noisy and full of itself
The band tends to be simply put: irritating, overblown, too many riffs and not enough melody, along with the annoying singer who doesn't seem to get less annoying. This album is more musically precise than previous efforts, though I have to say that i don't feel like i'm hearing anything new. I am a huge fan of experimental and progressive rock and I know that The Mars Volta has originality and ability, though in reality it isn't really anything new. The Mars Volta slab of noisy rock and roll isn't for everybody. .
