The Best of His Career...So Far This is Delbert at his peak performance. One of the Fortunate Few is an album that refers to those people who actually go out and purchase this album, or somehow acquire it for their very own. I have been a fan of his for 30 some odd years, seen him live a few times too. The man can make some great music. . . and some mediocre stuff, too. One problem the public and the media has with Delbert is that his music is not easily classifiable by genre. Call him blues and I think you miss the point, but call him country. . . you also miss the point. Call him rock and you'll be off center also. Delbert plays Delbert music very well. I used to call this type of music Tavern Rock because bands that play in beer joints usually play a mix of blues, rock, country and rhythm and blues. That's Delbert music. Bring on the chunking rhythms, the searing guitars, the background vocalists, the brass section and what you end up with is good feeling music. Delbert is no slouch of a writer either. But enough of this for categorizing his music. If you are looking for a good sampling of Delbert McClinton music you can try Classics Volume 1 or 2 or one of the anthologies but for pure bang-for-buck the most cohesive, well-put-together album of writers, players, singers, and production team are right here. You can read the other reviews about who is on this album and it often reads like a who's who. It is flat out one of my all-time favorite albums and I do not toss that phrase around lightly. Heartfelt music with rock, rhythm and blues made to make you feel good. It's all right here. This is where you START with Delbert, then, later on if you want more, try another album, but you WILL come back to this one. Go ahead, count yourself 'One of the Fortunate Few' who actually own this album.
One of the fortunate few
Delbert always does great R&B as we used to know it with his great Texan touch. This album has been around for a while-don't know why Iv'e only just discovered it.
Great Texas Honky Tonk
This is indeed one of his best efforts. I have followed this harmonica blowing blues man for years. If You Can't Lie Better Than That is great.
There are many more good ones on this recording. .
Delbert at his best!
The rest boogie. This album rocks! There is only one cry in your beer song.
half-baked blues
this whole thing comes across as bogus to me. where is the title tune? why is it missing from this CD?
poorly-written tunes.
want the real blues? won't find it here.
The only reason I bought this CD is because I wanted to hear ONE OF THE FORTUNATE FEW--but guess what??? It isn't on this CD.
I want my money back.
