delbert, this cdthis is another excellent cd from an extremely talented artist who has never gotten the exposer and recognition he deserves, this is aother sad example of a great multigenre artist caught in a catch 22 situation.
I'm in love
I'm just in love with Delbert McClinton, so anything he does brings smiles to this old face.
really classic Delbert
Delbert defines the juncture of Blues and country in a way that's reminiscent of the early Sun Records, without being Rockabilly or retro. These are the albums my friend Jim turned me on to in the 70s. It's Southern, white soul, I guess. It's wonderful whatever you call it. If anything, Delbert's recordings get better and better, but these early recordings are a great indication of where he came from, and are personal favorites of mine. Note the cover of "Victim of Life's Circumstances": that poor condom's been in the wallet so long it's worn a ring in the leather. Those are some hard times, bub, but Delbert transforms them into a rollicking good time.
King of the Modern Honky-Tonk
This CD is actually a combination of two LP's from the mid-70's, along with a few bonus tracks. Delbert McClinton has always stayed true to his roots - he specializes in a rock/Memphis blues/country hybrid that is at once high-energy, passionate, and crowd-pleasing without sacrificing his vision or integrity. My own favorites are 'Victim Of Life's Circumstances' (as good a honky-tonk song as you'll ever hear), the oft-covered 'Two More Bottles of Wine', and 'Blue Monday. ' This is a great album to play at a party to get people up dancing - which what you'll be doing all night long if you ever get to see Delbert live.
