It rocks, but Mellencamp is at his most bored I feel that Mellencamp was searching for a direction to take this album, but never seemed to get it going anywhere. I guess this album was better than I thought originally, but no hits from this album, or at least none of them got any airplay in Philadelphia where I was living at the time. "Love and Happiness" is supposedly about the Gulf War, and what America was going through which is a dramatic turn from his "Rah-Rah America" attitude. Here he's sounding embittered, and angry, and let me tell you those attitudes can only get you so far, and then people will forget about you. "Need A Little Love" sounds like a "Oh Come On People" song like he wants us to get back to the attitude of the 60's. The rest of this album is forgettable, and it shows that Mellencamp wasn't out of his slump yet. .
John Mellencamp CD

Excellent remastering
The remastering adds welcome depth to the sound, which on the original release was a bit harsh.
One of Mellencamp's Finest
Released in 1991, Whenever We Wanted was Mellencamp's last top-10 album until Freedom Road hit the shelves in late 2006. The first album to drop the moniker "Cougar," John Mellencamp's Whenever We Wanted is a finely-crafted heartland rock album.
I can remember first "hearing" the song "Get a Leg Up" on VH-1 while in college. A sassy rocker, it makes a fine centerpiece to the album, reaching the top 20 in Billboard's Hot 100 list. "Again Tonight" was also a top-40 hit.
Perhaps my favorite song was "Love and Happiness," one of the harder rockers on the album, reaching #5 on the Mainstream rock list. As a bonus track, a re-mix of this song is included in the remastered CD. While I prefer the original, this one is also well done.
While it may be on the downside of Mellencamp's peak of popularity in the 1980's and early 1990s, Mellencamp continued to refine his songwriting and songs, ending up with a fun and entertaining album. I loved it then, and I love it even more now. To me, it ranks right up there with Scarecrow as one of Mellencamp's best efforts.
Increible!!!
Debería ser de escucha obligatoria en los colegios!!
Uno de los mejores discos de la historia. El mejor disco de John Cougar Mellencamp junto con Lonesome Jubilee.
